Saru_24,

I can see your attitude to see things clearly beforehand is well in place, you are well prepared as far as knowing about the initial hiccups. I would say, give it a chance. If it doesn't work then you always have your familiy business in Mumabi to fall back upon. If it does, then you have 'Laddoos' in your both hands :).

One word of advise, do not make mistake to sell everything in India to either buy a house or settle down here. At least, you will have an option to go back if things do not fall in place.

Another word (I know, I said 'One') - Do not limit yourself to GTA, but move wherever you find good opportunity in Canada. Once you are experienced in your field, you can always move back to your choice of place.

Good luck.

I am currently handling my fathers fast food restaurant which generates enough income to take care of all our family of three includes me , my parents requirement with savings accounting to approx 2000$ CAD if converted from Indian currency.

Education wise I have a post graduation in hospitality management which I studied at London UK , worked there for two years as well, and I loved the lifestyle and strongly agree about the quality of life that country provides.

Back in India the quality of lifeis deteroiting infact of growing economy, ever growing corruption, bad infrastructure, rising expense etc is also making living here challenging with no peace of mind at times.

So I thought to again take the student stream , get into a college do a course in toronto, see how things work out there , pick up a job in hotel industry , meanwhile my restaurant back home will be managed by my manager. So that I keep one door open in case canada fails for me I.e I can go back to India and to my business.

Is it worth the risk?
My fiancé is a MBA from Mumbai and has a job in a reputed company as marketing manager in India, so if I get married before I leave India will she get a dependent visa?
Can she work full time? Considering her qualification and experience what kind of job will she get?
What visas can our parents apply in case they will visit us?

Thanks

Hospitality industry is competitive in Canada. Jobs are not easy to find and progress in career is slow. OTOH, running your own establishment may be attractive but is fraught with risk and failure. You can however start at a small and eventually grow.

Marketing jobs(for your wife) are not easy to get as well, although I have seen some successful Indian salespeople. Highly dependent on the individual.

As far as owning your own fast food business, there are practical problems as well. Most establishments are run by proprietors themselves. So unlike in India you cannot have the luxury of manager/s running the restaurant in your absence(perhaps only after you have grown large enough to own a chain).

Usually in Canada, families running restaurants together can manage to squeeze in vacation time when some members can stay back and monitor the business.

I have seen UK educated hospitality professionals sometimes slug it out for seven days a week. So the peaceful 9-5/Mon-Fri lifestyle that you crave for in your previous posts is simply not possible in hospitality industry, either as an owner or as an employee.

Should you feel unhappy with the place and decide to leave, then it would not be easy to sell you business without incurring some kind of loss.

Clean water, fresh air, organised society with a modest lifestyle(Canada) vs better lifestyle and none of the of the other advantages(India).

Aren't there some nice small towns and hill stations in India itself that fit your lifestyle requirements while retaining the desi advantage?

Elmer,
I agree with you.
But as a Desi, I would encourage him to come to Canada. Spend big bucks to study here. And then he will not get any job. He and his wife will slog at Tim Hortons or Mac Donalds earning min wage and cleaning toilets. Or he will start his own restaurant business with money from India and he will lose a lot of money and decalre bankruptcy as business fails.
Let him come and suffer.
Experience will be a big learning point for him and then he will be advising people not to immigrate here in another 5-10 years.
That is the case of most people unless you are in IT in Canada.

Hope this helps.

Peace by Murali

This is not the case for everyone!! Tired for people bashing Canada!! Also to all you people who get Canadian citizenship and then run with your tails behind your leg, why do you still have your Canadian citizenship if Canada was soo bad?? Why don you give it up!! Then you have the freaking audacity to sit wherever you cowardly ran to and bash this country!!

Exactly my point. If you are a loser to work your ass off and pay taxes to that I can come and free load later, what concern is it to me?
It is your choice to stay and work your ass off + pay your tax.

Good luck to you.
