- Is it possible to get a SIM card with a good data plan in Paris for my unlocked phone? Having a good data plan really helps while moving around in the city

- Where can I get some good vegetarian food - not necessarily Indian

- Any other tips for first time traveler with no knowledge of French language?

Just some pointers since I was there a few years ago.
Convert to Euro's in Canada and also get some change. Washrooms require change.
In the main tourist place, no one knows English. You are more lucky to find a person speaking Hindi than English. Of course at the entry counters, Money changers people speak English.
Paris is very very costly for food, unless you know insiders or eat at Mac Donalds. Just try to pack your lunch.
Metro is your best option to move around the city.
I sort of feel that the city is more like Chennai or Delhi with less population. People urinating outside at dark, jaywalking, houses having compound walls (which is not generally seen in NA)
peace

There are some accommodations available with washer and dryer. See if it suits you. If your stay is longer than TEN days then, take the TGV Ride one of the days. Pack your own lunch and eat at the destination.

Please be a trifle more careful with your personal belongings including cash / wallet when in Paris ..Though this can happen anywhere but of all the 5-6 major European cities we toured , my pocket got picked in a bus in Paris ... though I lost only a day pass ...

A friend of mine had his jacket picked of his Passport and other things while he was dining @ a restaurant and had hung his jacket on an adjoining chair ...

Visited Paris finally.

- Architecture and town planning is pretty impressive - considering the fact that all this construction and planning is done before the invention of modern technology. Kudos to French/Parisian government in taking efforts to maintain these monuments. Whether it is Grand Palais or Arc De Triomphe or Pantheon or Alexander bridge - the scale of monuments and the intricacy of its design - both are commendable.

- Loved the concept of people walking by the side and banks of river Seine.

- Language was a huge handicap, especially in non-Indian restaurants and coffee shops. Did meet rude waiters - the famed Parisian stereotype. Had to survive on pizza.

- Metro design and layout is very similar to London underground - but it also involves too much walking when changing lines. However, it is crowded all the times including weekends. People used to Toronto subways can find Parisians pretty rude.

- Food is very expensive. Although hotel had a free breakfast, a lunch of a sandwich and drink can set you off by 10 Euros. Double for dinner. 3.5 euros for coffee. Had to pay 4 Euros for Fanta and Orange juice.

- Was careful with my belongings. In addition, a waitress at a restaurant advised me how to place my bag while riding subway, so that it is in my sight all the times.

- Got a Bouygues data plan SIM card for 10 euros - unlimited internet for two days, then pay as you go. In addition, hotel had free WiFi

- Eiffel tower - meh! Rides to CN tower are well organised. However, loved the surroundings and atmosphere at the base and around Eiffel tower. People from all across the world.

- Overall, not very impressed with Paris. Agree with TK - it is just Madras or Bombay with little less population. Paris is dirty and smelly. Smoking is also a big issue. Had high hopes after I enjoyed my trip to London last year, but did not live up to expectations.
