Wow ! $ 1190+ Hydro which can work to $ 70-$130 a month (Summer and Winter). It is a bit costly for a Jr 1 Bed.
Nice area though. It will be very suited for skilled east europeans.
Let us know how your living is.

Hi All,

Moved to the new apt last Saturday. Got internet connected today, student plan not available at this location so have to pay almost double for a meagre data which is supposedly high speed. The apt is very clean, newly painted with new light fixtures. Hubby reaches home from office in around 30 mins :) There is a big park 5 minute walk from building, my daughter was playing for an hour yesterday morning. How is it that the kids don't feel the cold?, I see kids without gloves and toque playing outside in the school ground almost all day. Saw some Indian ladies walking by with strollers, didn't speak with anybody yet. There is a early years centre 1 KM away, will take my daughter there next week. How good are these? Any experiences? Have to search for some moderate rate daycare heard that the ones in the area cost around 2000!!! As far as shopping is concerned there is a Sobeys in the next building, I think its a little costly. Planning to go to Gerrard street this weekend and also some furniture shops. So far so good.

Glad to hear you are settling down.

Kids indeed don't feel cold :)

Anyway, it's good to get your child used to the cold. Schools will have children play outside until it's bitter cold. That's part of life.

Lalitha,
Glad to hear about your neighbourhood. Avoid Sobey's. You will pay 50% more. Also avoid the much hyped Gerrard st.. Either it is stale / over priced or rotton.
Always try Food basics or no frill for your requirement.
Sometimes, cheap and best furniture is got from IKEA. Also always watch the garbage dump of your apartment. Sometime Gora's throw away many nice stuff that will be useful to you. Most of my desi friends used to do that till they got settled.
Also try to get used stuff from Kijiji like TV/ CD player, stroller etc,, It will help you.

Drop in centers are good and a great way to kill your boredom. However, some one has to be there with your child and it is a waste of time for professional mothers who might be looking for work. Another option is to see some cheap baby sitter in your own apartment so that you need not go outside (snow) to drop your kid. It will also be cheaper but will not develop the child as much as professional daycares.

Try to meet your MP/MPP to ask about what help their office does not immigrants. Try also to contact Gopal pai (who is Happy woman 36 ) and she will surely help you a lot. She has a lot of contacts and ways to get maximum legal benefit that Canada offers immigrants.

Too bad you donot like Food banks otherwise they will give you atleast 15 days of food for your family in a month.

All the best.

Please dont pick up stuff from trash! Its the fastest way to get bed bugs. And most buildings around there have them. Its a nightmare getting rid of them. Please dont pick up used stuff.

Some great restaurants around. Loblaws is close by. No No Frills or Food Basics though.

I am looking in kijiji for used furniture, hope to get something decent. Will those ones have bugs too? What is a decent price for sofa & dining set?(500?) Tv am planning to get a new one around Christmas, they may have some offers.
Early centres will atleast help me to kill time, don't know if someone looks after kids in the apartment.
Some groceries are ok in Sobeys, planning to go to iqbal this weekend. How is it?
