Mr. Masood,

I have shown $18,000/- as proof of funds since we are a 4 member family.

When we come to Canada, I need to carry $18,000/- with me. In what form should I carry it? Also, my friend staying in Canada has suggested that he can send me a draft of say, $10,000/- in my name & that I should carry the same draft with me to Canada. The balance amount, ofcourse I will carry from my account.

Please let me know if this is ok.

I dont see a problem if you carry drafts in your name ...it will help if the draft is drawn from an indian bank in india...but i dont think they will look with such details ...they did not even look at my funds even when i offerred to show.
Just be sure that the total amount you carry should be moe than the minimum reqd amount.

Just make sure you have a good explanation if you're asked about the draft that your friend gives you.

Many people don't get asked to 'show the money', but you are required by law to bring it in with you. Not meeting this requirement could be reason for inadmissibility [and lots of head-ache]

Whenever my immi. goes through, I will be bringing enough money. I will be selling my 2 houses, some land and farms. I will get about 60-70 lacs rupees which equals to 2 lac canadian dollars. Now, the question is will SBI or Bank of Baroda give me a 2lac dollar draft. any special formalities from income tax to get this draft from bank?? In canada, will canadian bank deposit this 2 lacs draft without any hassles??
Please let me know as I have heard after 9/11 things are not easy.

Its not only after 911 but its from before. If u taking $s to CA or US, banks of india will ask u to show the reason. if u will say i m going there to settle, they will ask u to show visa. and if u talking more then u should they will give u hard time....unless u have some connection in the bank!!;)
they will stamp on ur passport the amount of money u taking so guys at immegration will not ask u to show draft or cash...coz they can know from ur passport that u have thismuch of draft with u.....
:)
