Hello All,
I hope somebody in this forum can guide me ..
I worked for a large corporation last 10 years and got laid off Last August with a severance package ending this month. I have been trying for jobs but so far hasn't got one. I am also pregnant and expecting my Baby in June.
My Question is - Considering the fact that I have contributed for all insurances ( like EI etc ) can I apply for EI ? Also is there any chance I am eligible for the usual 12 Months Maternity Leave Benefits ?
I am open to the Members suggestions or even if you can guide me to an office that can answer all the above questions .
Thanks
You are in luck.
Materinity benefits can be claimed for a period of 1 year, provided you have not used it for the past 5 years after getting laid off.
There is a rule where in you get your EI for max of 45 or 42 weeks after your severence period ends. If you have not claimed this EI, then you are eligible for maternity benefits.
Read the EI laws. It is very clear in that . If you donot understand that, you can walk into a HRDSC office or any community centre where they will guide you.
All the best for the baby!
