Always work on reference from fellow desi's.
SOme 5 years back, one desi recommended to me a chinese person. Unfortunately I lost his contact info..
I think I would be safe to say to avoid Desi's. They are one of the worst in home renovations. Just keep that point in mind.

My Husband is an exacellent handyman and has constructed some wonderful deck's and so forth. If anyone wants a proof i can send in pictures/video of the whole construction.
Renovation/handyman work is his passion though he is in IT field

Very interesting.... If I am an IT consultant, I don't think I can find time to work on projects that are totally in a different field and do the justice. He is lucky to be able to find time.

Gurram don't be amazed ..He may not be the only person who is pursuing two completely different professions simultaneously .
I have seen many very busy professionals who will spare time somehow to follow their passions . IMO if you really want you can always find/ manage time.

There is difference in persuing a passion in 'spare' time vs committing your client a work and finishing it in time.
I am sure Prince77s are having very less time for themselves.

It also depends what kind IT field one is working in. If it is IT consulting , nothing else can be done along,. What if your company wants you to travel to client site ? .
and IF it is in support , 9-5 'sit and monitor' kind of job and resolve IT tickets , lot can be done together with job and people do it. one of my friend is real estate agent cum IT professional who works from home.

Dudes,
With due respect, I will state that a person can be doctor, engineer or a tim hortons cleaner and still be a good handy man. As San Hugo says, having a passion and delivering a project are two different things. Desi's have very bad work ethics esp. when it comes to doing a good work with hand, Desi's are one of the worst in that. yes. We have good IQ, good in memory etc but very poor in NA construction.
Mind you, I was in Canada for 9 years working in home construction and I can vouch that Desi's are the worst in this field. Desi's tend to cheat, do a bad work and cover it up, steal from the houses that they are given work etc...
This is my experience. Proceed with caution.

Peace by Murali
