ALWAYS KEEP A COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT AND IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS IN A SEPERATE LOCATION. Also keep a photocopy of all important correspondence, just in case..
The only salvation for you is, if you have a photocopy of the Passport and the pages there in. You don't just send the Passport for renewal, you must have paid the required fees to do it. See if you can get the details also. If it was an M.O., then, see if they cashed it and the date on which it was done. There are so many things that you did that has escaped from your thoughts and your mind. Sit down and see if you can bring them back and write it all down. Then see if you can substantiate all of the details that comes back in your mind.
Write a letter with all of the details and with the photocopies and then address it to and write to that SAME location to which you sent all of these, in the first instance.
What ever you do, please maintain a photocopy of ALL OF THE CORRESPONDENCE and from now on, start a file, and get organized.
Here is a link to all of the funny stuff that has happened at the IHC at various locations, as published by GRUMPY INDIAN. Take heed.
