I came to Canada as a landed immigrant in June 2001, and stayed here for 2 years. However in July 2003 I got an offer and left for US and presently working with H1B status.
I have left my earlier bank accounts intact and have received all my statements in the address of my friend. Similarly my Canadian license bears the address of my friend in Toronto.
I filed the tax return for 2003 showing both Canadian and american income.
As per records I am present in Canada for last 3 years. Moreover I have the proof of residence (driving license and receipt of bank statements). Now is it adviceable for me to apply for Canadian citizenship.
I know a couple of people who had obtained their citizenship in this way.
1) To be a resident of canada - you need to pay taxes on your world income . Make sure you have done that for all years .
2) Some people fall through the cracks but generally most people who lie are found out easily during background checks .
3) A lot of things in US and canada databases are shared . Try filing for nexus border pass .
4) A lot of tax info is shared to prevent tax evasion and to find people who claim their canada residency and not pay taxes on their US and other countries income. read about this on the cra web site if you please .
4) File citizenship when you have completed 3 out of 4 years in canada, If you have not , wait till you do . You are not losing much by not being a canadian citizen for your US job . Maintain your residency and when you are legally eligible , file it .
PS: lying to immigration is a punishable offence and your citizinship can be cancelled anytime in future if found out that you lied .

If you are claiming residency for canada for that year , then you need to convert all chinese income to cdn dollars and calculate tax on it and then take a foreign tax credit on the tax paid to china and pay the difference (if any ) to canada .
Read the T1 properly when you file taxes . It is world income and not "canadian income" that is taxable .
