Funniest thing is howmuch ever u tell people, canada is a tough country blah blah... it is useless. When we get Visa, we are blind and deaf like ghandari patti is tied. ;-)

We were told by many people that, doctors drive taxi and u have to take survival job/labour job etc etc.... still we come thinking there is money tree in canada.

The true fact is that, if u have job in hand while landing, then only, u wil enjoy any country otherwise heaven can be hell if u dont have job or money to survive.

When u land, even if u carry lots of money and u see no job in near future say 6-12 months, it is nightmare coz u see ur hard earned money going waste. Initial struggle of 1-2 years can be very challenging. :) Not many survive so, better to send one person and wait till that, person gets job and then bring the whole family. just a thought frm my side. Never ever leave ur jobs and come like we did. If u do, then come prepared for the worst like joblessness, depression, arguments and fights b/w couple even divorce etc.we are lucky, we survived everything and won. ;-)

cheers!

Spot on! My cousin is landing in Winipeg in a month's time, and is very ecstatic. He applied and got through the PNP, but lacks any real skills and communication. I told him the truth, but as you said they don't listen. I strongly believe that he will do great here, as he is really looking forward to driving taxi and trucks. He doesn't have any intention to settle down in a skilled job with 9 to 5 kind of thing. I wished him good luck :).

My mom says, never stop/discourage anyone from immigrating to Canada, for they will only get to know everything first hand what we have been telling them for years.

"If life is a bowl of cherries, How come I am in the pits." You can always quote this when you are in difficulties. It might soothe you and calm your nerves. Or you head for the nearest Timmies or reach for a smoke. These are all the crutches we have and some of these help you get your thoughts back and sharpen your skills and in a few generate some Brain Waves.

Hey, you can include me in this too.

We beg, borrow or come close to stealing so that we can get a very nice education and get out of the schooling section of our lives and move on in life very smoothly, where ever we were, we had a roof over our head and a three square meals a day plus a few frills and thrills thrown in and a lot of gossip to get our chatter box going.

Having said all of this, some one or some thing winds up our brain and we enter into the BRAIN WAVE world. That is about the time we get the SEVEN YEAR ITCH too. We have five under the belt as experience and two extra to mouth our way into a job anywhere and a few bucks to splurge and the brain says.. So, we stand in front of the HIMALAYAS and see the peak and say "WOW wouldn't it be nice if we make it to the top".

Yes we can see the top alright and we can also see the route to it. Now comes the experience and the additional help that we have to get to make it to the foot hills there. Then the process of moving to the lofty ideals starts. Those days we did not even have a scrap of paper to get stated with and no one near by to point and whistle. Now in the current days we have the internets and Google to get started. There wasn't any Canadian Desi website nor an individual whom we can approach to get started, except there was an idea lingering in the pile of rubble in the annals of our brain which has collected a whole pile of junk, with no support nor any defined path to follow.

If I were to start this journey in my life with no guidance, I know I will be getting into a soup kettle. That is what happens to a few of us who have the skills, a few bucks to spend and a destination to reach. We start without any planning. Only thing we have is our own unique skills and hope the hell the Canadian Employer (Or the AUZZIE) will see the merits and give a job to try us out, after we land t/here. SORRY Senor, you are not welcome here because we do not recognize your Doctorate Degree from Hastinapur. ( OR Baramullah University.) We do see the Elephant and the Bear too, but no dice.. (Luck)

Well I thought I might be able to qualify for it sme how.! No way,JOSE pronounced HOSEY. Mmm.. I thought I was the only one who is facing this Sh*t. Now bear with me.. there was a Doctor, an Atomic Research Scientist, the top most from the U.K. who quit his job there and got hired here to join OPG (What ever it was called before OPG) and just about to start very near to the top spot... the authorities stepped in there in a hurry and told him "You sir, Can't hang your shingle in Canada".Well pretty close to 'no way, Jose'. He was out of here on the very next flight. No one told me that, nor a Doctor who landed here that he was now driving a TAXI.

Why all of this is happening in Canada. Because the Frikking Immigration is looking only at the head count and the dollars the Immigrants bring in to prop up the economy, working their horse off and supplementing the labour force. What a nice title to such a job. "MMmm "Labour Force". Frikking coolies job.**Now they say that they need NURSES here and we all are screaming for them. Can't they train or hire the locals and fill those vacancies? No, they have to find a new way to get them in. These are all ploys and each and every Minister who runs the department wants to develop a newer route - -or a Channel to get cheap labour for the timmies, macs and BGK or KFC or the fruit pickers of the Okanagan Valley. That always flops and the current news media flings it back at them the very minute it happens or the very next day that it flops. Boomo, the gates get closed and the Parliament then takes a summer holiday. Two months down the road, who remembers this screw up or has the same push to get the clown off his throne?

That is why we always tell you before you jump from the frying pan into the fire, see if you have asbestos undies. It will at the least save your family jewels.

Now coming to who is doing this? It is all of those, including me, who are qualified to hold a decent post, do not want a straggler to enter and screw up our profession. No one should hang a shingle unless his qualifications are recognized here as EQUAL to those who have worked their butts off to get it. The reason being, If you do any F**k ups, we can easily pull the plug out from under him and he cannot go anywhere and start all over again. Yes they have done it, some of the quacks who were screw balls who KILLED a dozen or so patients went to the dark continent for FIVE long years and came back to ride the horse again. They are HERE amongst us. All of the medical profession knows it too.

So, what is the remedy.? We all want those who enter into Canada, prepare themselves thoroughly prior to entering and prepare to re-qualify to get their professional status as soon as they can do it. It does not stop there, some professions will call for understudy, internship or local experience to get by and move on in life from there. In this shuffle (Moving from one continet to the next) we find that we have lost an year or two. And what happens to the five and two that we had before we started on our long journey? It is all a waste. What you saved in those seven all got blown in the year or two that we slogged here in our lives. But, there is always a butt... those were the most happy years. WHAT?? well in a way they were, you can't forget them. They are stuck like marbles in a clay pot. Neither can you erase them nor get them out your memories.!!

WELL, CHALK IT TO EXPERIENCE.

I am here to help you, so that you don't have to go through them with all of the difficulties that most of us have gone through in a country across the pond. So, don't feel shy. Ask away and you will get the proper help and the best guidance that you will ever get anywhere for FREE.

AND

If I get to see one person return back and tell me that I helped him/her in his/her time of need, then that will make my day. I will stand in front of a mirror and smile and I know you are somewhere there with me.

FH.

**250,000 Immigrants with 12,000 dollars each =3,000,000,000. Mmmm. That is a
whole lot of Wampum.

Full House,

You nail it so hard that the nail broke too. Well done!

Now, get this darn good piece published in some mainstream newspaper. You have my vote. :)

Perspective immigrants - that's the utter truth, in its wholesomeness.

Folks who come from Gulf, must have some savings before considering PR to Canada. Your situation is far better, you have some trial & error time, than a lot of people quitting their good jobs and no savings, selling all their parents assets to come here. That would be a big mistake.

Jobs are very very hard to get, unless you are willing to take up survival jobs and get a grip on language fluency particularly in spoken English.
Its extreme cold, very hard on your health if coming from India.

School education is basic, lacks discipline, focus, good foundation and too many distraction. Conflict between Indian culture upbringing at home and modern independent free society culture is a constant conflict between Indian parents & their kids, and if you push, kids just move out and don't count on them being with you in your old age.

Think if you can deal with the 3 above very important factors, then choose.

Very well said Arunachalam.
To others :
Please research the job market well before you come here.
