Hello everybody,

We are moving from Qatar to Mississuaga soon and would appreciate if any CD's have suggestion thru personal experience of best door to door sea cargo agents.

Total is 5 CBM only....reduced as much as possible.

Even clearing & delivery agents at Toronto sea port would suffice, as many agents are providing freight only till Toronto port and we shall have to do the clearing, transportation and delivery to our apartment at Square one mall.

We await your valuable suggestions

Have a nice day

Thank you

Your clearing agent would ask you about the carrier out of QATAR. He will ask you about the PORT OF ARRIVAL at the destination. Then the date of arrival. The local agent's NAME here at the port of arrival. Then the ETA. Are you there to clear it yourself, with your PP. AND WAY BILL. No hassle clearance with your copy of the declaration that you got stamped at the P.O.E.

JUST TO MAKE IT SIMPLE, see if you can get the delivery addressed to Mississauga DESTINATION right when you ship it out of Qatar. See if that option is available. Might not cost you anything, check with the shipper.

Ask the shipper to ADDRESS AND DELIVER THE FIVE euro pallets/5 cu meters of your personal effects to a location in MISSISSAUGA. There is an international BONDED WAREHOUSE there from which you can clear them.

Lay open the contents of each box prior to packing and sealing. TAKE A PICTURE of all of the items getting into that box. Any excess space you pack with bubble pack or styro beads or crumpled paper. NUMBER THIS BOX as # 1. I see you have about 400 standard boxes. If they are non standard, you have the count. Carry on smartly with the other 400. Now you are packed and ready and you can any time see where your items are and in which box. Make sure there are no CONTRBAND stuff. They have sniffing dogs here. Also, the pictures you took while paking is your insurance. It is a very small expense that you are incurring.

Get each pallet plastic wrapped before it gets into the Container. Now you know that nothing else will get into the Pallet, container. A container holds ten of them. So you have half a container.(LCL) Put your name and address on each at four different corners. Have the address stickers ready.

Do you have an International Drivers Permit. Can you drive here in Canada? If so, how confortable are you renting and driving a cargo van here. Are there any friends here who will help in the retrieval from the warehouse to the residence at Square One here in Mississauga. All of these are the questions that pop into my head.

You can rent these vans for under $250 FOR A WEEK and plan the moving all by yourself. Or pay an additional amount to hire a group of movers for their fee. (This is a long week end and no one will answer the phone calls.) You are here now. Not knowing the contents, sizes and the fragility of all of the goods that you have on hand, I will leave you here and you can take it from here. (After clearing and moving, the balance can be left in the van and can be left stored, till you get a chance to do it the next day, as you slowly un pack and settle down.) The cost of rental for a Van, under $50 per day with insurance.

You can write and ask CBSA if you can ELECTRONICALLY CLEAR YOUR Personal Effects from the port of landing (at the destination.) If they will permit that, you are in LA LA land. ( Remember there are no duties levied on your personal effects. Only the landing and clearance fees associted with the goods received. Also, they will levy a DEMURRAGE Charge if you delay in picking it up on its arrival. You only get a few hours to do that.)

Good Luck.

FH.
