Hi,
Wondering if anybody has experienced the processing time for surrender certificate from ottawa. Getting mixed messages from BLS. Over the phone I was told 4-6 weeks, when applying in person I was told 3-4 weeks.
I want to apply for OCI to travel in Dec but not sure if there will be enough time.
Thanks for sharing.
Just OCI would probably take you around 2 to 2.5 months. Don't think you'll have enough time for both.
Last summer I had applied for transfer of OCI to a new passport in Toronto, they messed it up so badly, the entire process took 5 months. I had to take a visitor visa, 'cause I didn't want to take chances of being denied entry, since the OCI didn't get transferred.

You are allowed to enter India with OCI sticker on your old passport - just that you have to carry your old passport. It is clearly written on Indian Consulate website,

Thanks guys. Applying for visa seems the way to go given short time i have. OCI willhave to be for after i come back.
Any experience on time for surrender cert. My wife was told she cannot even apply for visa without surr cert.
Take PIO card. Similar to OCI and valid for 15 years.
I got it in one week in 2010 and you apply directly to the Indian consulate.
This is much better than the Visa.
