My perception is that we cannot take India as whole, there is lot of poverty in UP / Bihar / WB. Even in Delhi the moment you hit railway station you realize what a billion population feels like and there are poverty around.
But I intend to live in Chandigarh (Tricity), where there is way less poverty compared to other cities. In Chandigarh there were slums which they have removed and moved as many people as possible in to housing board constructed apartments on the edges of the city with all amenities provided to them. I guess it is happening in all cities, part of some Jawahar plan. It should definitely have an impact on cleanliness or crime.
One more thing last week I also went to METRO, it is like walmart. Did the purchasing and on MRP saved around 10-20% depending on items, they charge for plastic carry bags but there is a free packaging done using the leftover cardboard boxes from the store supplies. I liked it, so shopping was like Canada but with dedicated store as big as walmart for Indian supply instead of couple of aisles.
On the flipside, I had to pay 1000/- for an affidavit that included cost of INR 20/- and typing. I was spared running around, the work was done and I was called to collect the affidavit. I think I paid some part of it as bribe, don't know how much I would have paid for the same in Canada in dollars.
@MKBLR - My apologies, I didn't mean to generalize. what I am writing is about my experience and family. True, I don't know what future holds for me but my best guess for my kids is they will not like to move back to India once educated in Canada for few years. Neither do we want them to keep hoping schools.
Absolutely 100% agree with Chris
If you want a piece if future India, you have to be in India.
Its the same like immigrating to the US in the 90's. Now US/Canada is not the same. Healthcare & Pension liability will weaken them financially
Cool.

Actually, Canada is no big deal for the middle order like BE Mechanical, BE civil or Msc's. It is good only for IT people and low level workers.
IT people will never agree that India is a good place and I have even stopped telling anyone that. Though India is a very populated country, the services that we expect comes faster than Canada. Bribe has been reduced to the min. for the basic things. Health care is fantastic.
One thing I dislike is the education. Some of my cousins are studying in local schools and the portions are a lot to study. I am not even able to understand grade 7 science and math books. It is that tough. But if you have money for international schools, then it is good.
For IT people of your calibre, Chennai pays 20-30 L. Not sure about Chandigargh.
Now India is encouraging 50L and below investments and loans in housing and so I would implore you to buy a flat now.
Any questions, please feel free to ask me. I am in the extreme south (near nagerkoil)

A correction, only 2.89% of Indian population amounting to 36 million filed income tax. I guess only around 30% would be above 12 Lac per annum. That means 0.83% of Indian have 12+ Lac per annum .
