Hello,
I work in the real estate industry and am located in a capital city in India.

I see a lot of mobile towers here. Atleast there is one for ever 1 or 2 kms.. So it is ineveitable that there might be a mobile tower just near your house. This is not restricted to Downtowns and high rise apartments but even in the outskirts. We had a site away from town where it was predominantly low rise and just in a matter of days, they errected a mobile tower from our neighbours plots.

We deal with NRI's (I refer to USA NRI's) and some people are really afraid to buy apartments since there are mobile towers nearby. In India, this is the new reality, I am told (which is being accepted by a majority of locals).

While I was in Canada, I really did not see any mobile towers. I spoke with a friend from USA and he told me that houses near Hi Tension Electric lines and Mobile towers (in the US) fetch a lower price (probably 20% lower than the market price).

I would request any feed back from CD's regarding mobile towers.

Murali The Krishna.

I don't see the one any where I live. Not sure if in India they are using some obsolete technology (I doubt) or is it due to the sheer size of the mobile users within a close proximity. I suspect it's the latter. But, I don't see any cell towers in any of the nearby neighborhood. Even if they are there, are not visible and affecting the aesthetic of the city I live/ work in.

Your friend is absolutely right on the hi-power electric lines and the property valuation nearby. House prices in those areas are significantly lower. There are adverse health effects.

Mobile Towers are way more discrete in Canada. The article below will tell you the process of installing it, the procedure , permissions, regulations , safety etc

http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/icgc.nsf/eng/07422.html

Since they are way more discrete, generally people don't care about it and doesn't reduce your property values , unless its right in your backyard.

People are more concerned about Wind Mills and high voltage & big electricity transmission lines close to their house. They reduce the property values, but people are not too concerned about cell phone towers in Canada, they have a negligible effect on property values.

Thanks Adam. That was quite helpful.
I will see how Indian mobile towers frequency compares with the Canadian tower frequency and advise the client accrdingly.

Thanks once again.

BTW, I can understand why Canadian are afraid of Hi Voltage towers but why wind mills? Is it because the power generated by the wind mills will be a hi voltage current? but then I would guess that wind mills will be in god forsaken areas so that they can catch much wind and hence not be dangerous at all.

wind mills are huge and massive, they cause a lot of noise and vibrations when they rotate.

The vibrations cause sleepless nights ..its more like a continuous WHOOP..WHOOP..WHOOP sound

Causes hearing damage etc.

They used to be in god forsaken places, but now slowly they are starting to move them in cities in places like Scarborough bluffs etc.

Lot of NIMBY ..not in my back yard ..thing going on these days in Canada. Everyone wants technology and its benefits , but just not in their back yard.
