Good Hasni! Thanks for the info..
Now let us assume that your wife and kids are living in a 2 bed or 3 bed apartment for $ 1200 rent. Their cellphone, food, TTC, misc. expenses will come to around $ 700 a month minimum. So lowest expense is $ 1900 a month.
Your wife will get child benefits of around $ 500 a month. HST credit (if you declared your world wide income for less than $ 20K) around $ 200 a month. So that gives you $ 700.
Till you come to Canada for good, this is what your wife can do (please positive CD's please ignore this post) :
1. See if your children's school provides free hot breakfast or hot lunch.
2. Let your wife / children ask the school principal if they are giving any financial assistance for low income earners from school.
3. If you visit food banks, you can get groceries free and you can save around $ 200 a month. You will have to register in 3 or 4 food banks as one food bank will give you only a weeks supply of groceries for a month.
4. Your wife can visit ESL courses (usually community centres) and they can provide some financial assistance / TTC tickets etc...
5. Your wife can provide some childcare / walking children to and from school and try to earn some easy money.
6. University of Toronto sometimes offers paid survey's etc.. and can get $ 200 for some studies. But this ones once in a blue moon,
7. Paksitani's cook well. your wife can try to sell packed food among friends only. As hydro is included in rent, you can use as much electricity as you want.
8. Let your wife build credit by using credit card. She should take atleast 3. Then you can get unsecured line of credit / balance transfer and may be use the money to buy land in pakistan or put it in FD in pakistan.
9. Your children should familairize themselves with OSAP loans so that they can study univeristy with the Govt's money and not your hard earned money from Saudi.
10. Golden rule : Never lend money. Never borrow money from individuals (even with no interest). Never join quikstar or MLM schemes. Just kick those people out.
11. If your wife or children face any injury like slipping down at Walmart, cutting slightly their hand in no frills, slipping on ice infront of a home etc, you should immediately meet the owner / manager and ask him for compensation. They will give you a decent amount of money as they donot want to get sued. Visit Redflagdeals website for more information on this.

Once you come back to Canada, I will give you tips on how to survive in Canada, without spending a dime from your hand.

Thanks TK, nice tips. But would be more interested in knowing about various kind of survival jobs, how to get them immediately, and other money making ways on weekends.

Hasni:
I am listing various jobs to make money but be informed that 2 part time or 1 part time, 1 full time job with 5-6 days working per week only will get you max. money and safety from depression.

Herewith I am penning down full time / part time job :

1. Labour jobs (light labour)- Contact a manpower concern and fill the form with them. They will send you to a factory to do the work. Manpower will get a cut from your salary and mostly you will be paid min. wage with OT only after 44 hours. Depending on the economy you may or may not get a job immediately. In 2002, jobs were plenty but I quit labout jobs on the first or second day as the job was too hard. After quiting, I will be without job for 15 days and after that I will get another job, quit it etc.. After 6 months, I got into a light job which I was enjoying (binding books, stocking magazines in a printing press). I was doing 12 hours (7pm to 7 am) 5 days a week and getting 16 hours OT on $ 8 salary. Quit the job after 1 month when I got my line job for $ 10 an hour.

You can choose your industry. I had a friend who was a chemist. He got into GSK (Glaxo) as packer. Later he had sex with his supervisor and she recommended him internally and he is now a chemist at GSK now for the last 11 years.

2. JOb with pizza delivery - ask any pizza shop esp. unregistered Italian ones. Get paid in cash.

3. Security job - You know what it takes.

4. Job with food joints like Tim Hortons, McD, No frills etc with min. wage. Note that your first job would be to clean toilets. Of course, gloves will be provided.

5. Move to Alberta and go to Fort MacMurray etc. where jobs are plenty. Even you can work at Tim Hortons there and the pay is more. One of my friend did some Welding QC course and he is a QC now earning $ 65,000 a year (Calgary)

Unfortunately, except the above 5, other jobs require references (your friends can tell you) and very very hard to get.

Hope this helps.

One short term job exists at the airport (Pearson)
This is useful, if you are visiting the airport to send off your friends.
As you know the trolley at the aiport is got for $ 2 and 25 cents is given back when you hand it over. Many will just leave the trolly on the road and leave. So you can collect these trollies and push it back in the stand and get 25 cents for each one put in the stand.

Areas to look out for :
1. Car parking areas
2. Departure lounge (near the check in areas)
3. Arrival pick up area.

For 30 mins of work, you will get around $ 8.

Watch out for the somali cartel which is prevalent at the airport and sometimes they will choo you off. So be descrete.

Hope this helps.
