Not so fast. In Lower Mainland, BC we still have prices ranging from $119 to $123/litre - highest in the country.
Thank goodness for the close proximity to the US border. I have completely foregone buying from Canada. Last week, I filled up my tank for CAD 83 cents/litre in Washington State.
Keep it coming, baby!
Didn't know that even Costco has different prices at its different outlets!!!

In southern states,
Texas. Lubbock. 2.55/Gal
New Mexico. ..... 2.52/Gal
South Carolina...2.46/Gal
Florida................2.48/gal
Works out to be about 62c/lit
Buffalo........ 3.28/Gqal
New YorkNY 3.20/Gal
It has been steady there for a while.
In Canada we have been paying $1.15/lit Gets close to double the price. Do we deserve such a treatment as an Oil Producing Nation?
The same oil travels down south and gets refined and they sell it for half the price. This country being so vast and with great distances to travel each day, we have been hit hard by the Government with Excise and FED Taxes. The Provinces also take a bite. If you are spending 10-12% of the income on Travels and Gas, covering long distances, you are only getting 40% of the money spent for your travels. The rest is a big hit on your pockets.
Here is the web link for comparison. : http://www.gasbuddy.com/GB_Price_List.aspx?cntry=USA#us_cities
Full House,
Unfortunately, re. the taxes, nothing much could be done. You can pretty much write to your MP, or vote for the less evil party, but even that won't make any difference.
For the folks like me living closer to the border, the choice is apparent. I care two hoots for Canadian gas stations and Govt. gas taxes. Feel sorry for those that can't do it and have to pay this ransom day in and out.
The same is the fate of Canadian Air fare.
Governments won't do anything. Take matter in your own hands by finding better deals yourself.
We all are smart people. But not accountants. Say if your Gasolene bill is around 500 dollars a month and Six or Ten can open up their own company and pay out to each other Five Hundred bucks as work done for each other, then, the business does generate a small income. But has its own expenses and if perchance can do other work too, as some claim that they hold two jobs, then, this scheme may give a small relief and can write off some of the expenses. But it takes a few good people to come up with some good ideas and do it in a legal format and there by swing these personal expenses into business expenses and come up on top, with a big smile is the thought for the day.
Yes I would like to cross the border and also have a meal. You are enjoying it and I will let you do that too. I am a arm chair traveler and want to do it from my seat. Hence this suggestion.
I don't want to put out my 11 pointer. That topic is for another day.

There are a few who are claiming their Mortgage payments as investment expenses. That is what triggered this topic. fh
