Hi Guys,
Just wanted to know how long is your commute to work everyday? This morning, it occurred to me to poll people about their commute times. A bit of selfishness in this, let me say. Just wanted to compare other people's commute with mine to see where do I stand in this? Also, just to solace myself if majority of them spending more time than me, and ready to take a setback in case the opposite . Not that I can do anything about it - as suburbs are not a great place to find a quality employment. Unless, it's a city/municipal job. Couldn't do much and move closer to the jobs, as they keep changing and the main cities are a darn expansive to live.
So, my commute is roughly about 30-45 minutes one way, if there are no accidents. On an average, there's one accident in a week, which greatly adds on an average of 30 minutes to my driving. I am in lower mainland, BC and have to cross 2 bridges. Metro Vancouver is notorious for not having wider freeways. Too many bridges with gridlocked traffic in the office hours. But, what I have seen, 401 with 8 lanes is not that great either.
House prices, even in the suburb where I am currently living is crazy with decent house starts at $575k. I am a single earning, and contemplating buying a house, but in order to get something affordable, I have to move a little farther away which adds 20-25 minutes to my commute one way. Doesn't help much, and the situation is bound to be more scarier.
At least you GTAians have a good thing going (please correct me if I am wrong) with lots of jobs in Mississauga, Etobicoke, and to some extent Brampton (Rogers, Loblaws, etc.). Not so much here in Metro Vancouver. If one is living in Surrey, which is BC's version of Brampton, they have to commute in a brutal rush hour to Vancouver and it's immediate cities.
Let's share ideas as to how we can reduce our commute time. It's a freaging waste of life. Frustrated? Yes, I am.
7 to 10 minutes.

55 minutes each way in Calgary which includes driving to train station, taking train (30 mins) and then walking 4 blocks to work in downtown.
15 mins ....including dropping my kids off to school
Febreet to soothe you : One hour from home door to office door ...includes dropping off kids.
Good thing is I drive to work so can use time listening to good stuff.
Also I heard on radio recently, average commute times are about 35 to 40 min.
