In Canada, from 2002 to 2006 , 20 minutes one way. (Etobicoke to Vaughan border with Toronto)
From 2006 to 2010 , 1 hour 20 minutes each way (Mississauga to Kitchener)
From 2010-2011, 25 mins. one way (Mississauga to Etobicoke)
In India - 25 minutes if I use public transit, 15 mins if I use Auto and 20 minutes, if I use car. All one way
Hope this helps

Have you guys ever thought about finding some quality employment in a close proximity to your home, within your own city/suburb? I know there are many headquarters in Brampton and Mississauga, or the West of GTA. I also know, there may not be many options in burbs, but even with a small hit on the salary, we shall be saving a big commuting headache everyday and be more happier. That's what I think at least.

Just a thought. I am trying to do something similar, even though very happy in my present capacity. I don't mind career change provided the same paycheck, or the City job. Municipal jobs pay a slightly less but at least it will be in the same city for me to travel shorter distance while living in an affordable decent house. Plus, a govt. provided pension won't be such a bad idea after all.

Transit may be an option. Still about an hour of commute. Break and go is not my thing anymore. It simply sucks, and don't want to waste my life like that. Am I getting old? Nah...

If nothing else works, then I guess would have to suck it up! :)

My travelling changes when the project changes. Past 2 years been flying on mon morning, then no significant travel till Thurs evening. WFH on friday. Taxis I take on mon and thursday are eye opener enough that driving in GTA is going from bad to worst to horrible. Prior to that in 2010 till early 2013 it was 60 mins GO train to Downtown and I developed good reading habits, completed my PMP and generated some app ideas while sitting in the train every day. It was fun I must say (except had to wait sometimes...in cold) , After all we all love when somebody else drive (or fly!) for us.
All in all, never had to buy second car and I like it that way. huge savings ! Not sure if this will continue... till then - Driver gadi nikalo..! :-)
Good topic.

I live in Ajax and work in Dundas/Yonge. In Ajax I live about 13KMS from GO station. My commute is about 1 hr 20 mins door to door. With traffic+ train delays on bad days upto 1 hr 45 mins. 1 hr 20 mins break up is 25 mins by car (includes parking etc) , 35 mins by train, 20 mins walk (more time in Winter).

My cost on transportation /Car/Fuel and insurance is as follows

Go transit - 260 for me and 260 for my wife- 520 $
CAR EMI-----------------------------------------276 $
CAR INSURANCE------------------------------- 200 $
CAR FUEL (includes weekends)--------------- 150 $

TOTAL------------------------------------------ 1146 $

Just on transportation I spend so much.. :-(...This is the life of pretty much everyone in GTA....

Vivek,
More than the money, you are wasting precious time. When you drive, you canot do anything.
Make use of your time in GO by doing constructive things.
This is one of the reasons I have the housing dream. You buy in Ajax and work in downtown. Just imagine, if you had kids and had to leave them with the baby sitter / school. You will be worried that in any emergency, it will take you 2 hours to reach your child.
