Dear Biomed, Bl, ..

I remember very well, in my first or second post, I had mentioned the advantages to be "POSITIVE", or suggested to work with POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

Now let me add my views...

WE HAVE MADE A GREAT INGREDIENT OF A PRODUCT CALLED SUCCESS A VERY SIMPLE WORD. BL, You have written "Positive attitude by itself means nothing", I would agree if you mean to say, Positive attitude is not a substance, but I would disagree if you mean that it means nothing.

Attitude is one of the most most important pre-requisite to start on anything. According to me, there are four vital factors,

ATTITUDE
SKILLS
KNOWLEDGE
ABILITY

According to me every human has different proportions of each of these while doing his/her work. (CHANDRESHJI AGAR PADHENGE TO UNKE SUCCESS INGREDIENTS VALE POST MAIN HUMNE LIKHA THA, KI in a 100 mtr race, only one will win, and he had replied that with hard work why all are not able to win, only one DHIRUBHAI comes out)...This has my answer...

Dhirubhai would have had, maximum qnty of all four of these. These 4 are indespensable. If I have good attitude (positive) and do not have the other 3 strongly available in me, I can't get my bottom line. Attitude will decide the intensity of readiness to begin or to follow the requirements of a job. "MORE THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MORE THE READINESS OF WORK", AND VICE VERSA.

Aisa hi Skills or ability ka relations hai (they are different)..For e.g, I have great skills, but I am not able to optimise it , I can't bring the highest result. We all know SACHIN TENDULKAR IS A GREAT BATSMAN, HE HAS ALL THE SKILLS OF BATTING, BUT ON ONE PARTICUALR DAY HE IS NOT ABLE TO DELIVER. so in one line "ABILITY IS THE BENCHMARK OF SKILLS"..

(isi liye chandreshji, race main sabhi log first nahi aa sakte hai...ya every one can't become DHIRUBHAI, ya DHIRBHAI did not become this due to luck. He represented the max of all these 4 parameters.

AND FINALLY YOU WILL SURELY NEED KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO...For e.g. I am in INSURANCE industry and developing people for selling insurance. Now if they have positive attitude, skills , ability to deliver on the skills but do not have knowledge of insurance product, they can't bring me sales.

I hope I am making it clear. I can add more and more views and examples, but these are highly debatable issues and thats why, I removed my self from the post (Success its ingredients)...HEY THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I AM RIGHT...THESE ARE MY VIEWS.

We all have some kind of attitude in us, but to answer BIOMED, Coming to canada is a diversification from what we were doing in india, hence thats the reason we all will have to start with GOOD POSITIVE ATTITUDE, Baki to how you network yourself, how you will use the centres of influence and do your hard work, it will decide the bottomline.

Regards,

VJ..

Because of the POPULARITY of POSITIVE ATTITUDE talk some members hold back their valuable thoughts as they don’t want to be labeled as negative thinkers or people with negative attitude.

If the thoughts are valuable then they cannot be -ve, nor the attitudes -ve. And vice-versa :) . So If i thought my thoughts were valuable I would not hesitate in writing them down. Of course, the readers will be the ultimate judge(irrespective of whatI thought).

I think the popularity of +ve attitude is a good thing and wish to thank people like MI/VJ/my2cents etc...for expressing their views. For a person without a job or cut off from his culture it may well be AN important factor(if not the most). As BL put it, who wants to be around people who are bitter all the time? I'm sure none of us(on cdesi) want to.

***Just for the record: I dont think anyone of us on canadian desi are Bitter people OR negative people :D ***

*VERY IMP*: I am glad that we are discussing on the utility of a +ve attitude. Lesser groups would be unhappy about the popularity of people like Mistar India and his views and would be trying to pull people like him down. Canadian desis are above that, thank god! :cheers:

Being positive is basically a "polticially correct" thing (though no politics is involved) to be.

Even among a group of negative individuals the most negative of them will be castigated.....:D

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

You have this concern only for MI or for others too? As I have seen quite a few post from you too, pulling down people like hell.
Thanks and regards.

:D. You are the cynic of cynics, I have to give you that.

And to VJ, no, I didn't mean that positive attitude means nothing. I meant its nothing by itself. i.e. If I have a big smile on my face and fill my head with the most cheerful thoughts of sweet success while in a swimming pool, I don't think I'll be able to swim . I'll also need to move my hands and feet.

I whole heartedly agree with your list of attributes needed for success, however IMHO one other factor which is needed is the ability to be at the right place at the right time which some people would call "LUCK" but which I would replace with persistence. If you are persistent and stay the course sooner or later your efforts will be rewarded. But to be persistent you need the right atitude and have to be confident of your skills, knowledge and ability so that when the opportunity comes you can grab it without any self-doubt. So all these attributes go hand in hand.

Some of my favourite quotes are as follows:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
Calvin Coolidge (1872 - 1933)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying, "Here comes number seventy-one!"
Richard M. DeVos
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail."
-Napoleon Hill
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I do not mean to be "preachy" nor am I talking without the benefit of experience. I have had my share of ups and downs in life and the quality which has helped me the most is persistence.

Just my2cents.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)

Just to keep the records straight (or whatever the term in English is!!) - VJ, you are wrong - I did not say anything about Dhirubahi. Infact, if I remember correctly (now a days my memory is failing me), I originated the thread but did not write anything after that on the same thread for lack of time. I think it was Raj who said this - but as I said, I might be wrong (each person has a quota of abilities - in trying to develop more and more positive attitude, I am losing my memory :D since I am so engrossed in present and making the best out of it:cheers: )
