I have just completed a month now following could guide you:

1.TC's and DD's takes a while at the bank to get credited,preferably carry USD in currencies for the initial days/weeks.
2.Open joint Bank account that would help you in identifying yourself and wife easily with govt authorities.
3.Apply for SIN as early as possible.Employers do not process applications without SIN.I had to wait for a week to get my appointment letter from the employer .
4.Be absolutely POSITIVE and Confident,you will surely get employed.
5.Proof of residence is required for school admission.
6.Keep the records of Landing handy.
