Thanks Adam.
Been there and done that.
As early as 2002, it was very difficult to get the right job. I got a light labour job after 4 months of struggling. It paid me $ 8 (the minimum wage then). If I had not got my line job, I might have been there. The supervisor wanted to hire me permanently and may be I would have got $ 10 or $ 12 an hour. Job was 60 hours a week.
My next tryst with labour job was in Feb 2009, when I was fired from my line job. It was peak recession and I could not get one for the next 10 months.

To Delhite:
The people are only moderately educated. In Gulf they will earn SR 2000 in labour job or SR 5000 max in supervisor position. So they donot want to go there. They want to come to Canada to earn $ 11 an hour + overtime on labour jobs. They are selling their lands and giving to agent who will make them land in Canada as refugee's.

In the job I mentioned above, I was speaking (in 2002) to a sri lankan illegal refugee (whose papers were normalized in Canada) and I told him that I want to be in Gulf instead of Canada, he (uneducated) told me that only in Canada, we all could make this much money. He was wrong. Yes. for him Canada was the best place as a 12th std. pass and a IT software engineer can earn the same amount of money in Canada. But this is not the case in the Gulf. Only professionals will earn muck. Less educated will only be labourers or supervisors.

Still I have not got a good answer.
What Adam told me is what I already know and will be shared to them as a last option.
I still have my mind set on Regina. This came into my radar as early as 2002. My girl friend was in Regina and he was studied as an Engineer there. She used to work in the mines during her study where she was the water girl. She then got a job in an hospital once she graduated. She wanted me to come to Regina whereas (as I was misguided) I wanted her to come to Toronto. She refused and the relationship ended.

Even during the boom time of 2004-06, I have heard that Regina offered very good jobs due to oil sands and pottassium. Pottasium still is a leading export for Canada as is Wheat. May be I will google and see.

If money is the main objective, I think, Middle East would be a better choice. You have also recommended it so many times in previous posts.

Middle East has a horrible record when it comes to treatment of workers who do Labour jobs. More often than not, their Passports are confiscated on arrival & some have not been paid for months.

They are nothing but bonded labour over there & slaves , especially people from third world countries.
Plus NO status , no citizenship , no rights etc , you can be deported any time.

If you are white or a professional , you can expect a better treatment in Middle East.

Regina has brutal weather , just like Winnipeg, Saskatoon . Not many desis & brown immigrants there. So life can be very cold & depressing over there. Not much to do over there either, lifewise.

There are good paying labour jobs , but mostly whites & locals will get them . Usually these jobs, you get hired DIRECTLY by the company like the Mines , Car manufacturing company , Oil rigs etc. They pass on these jobs ONLY to their friends & family ..you don't have much chance of getting them. These jobs can be as high as $ 100,000/year.

But expect your friends to get the low paying labour jobs , which not one wants to do ..and they are mostly going to be through temping agencies like Apple One , Manpower , Randstand , Kelly services..these are the $ 12 - $ 15 per hour jobs I am talking about. These jobs are also usually better paying , but the agency takes a huge cut hence you only get $ 12 - $ 15 per hr.

These jobs can STILL be easily found if your friends want to do them..even in GTA , no need to go to Regina for them .

Let them come here in GTA first & do these jobs for a few months , save some money & see how they like doing these manual back breaking & knee breaking jobs & get a hang of the country. And later on if they want they can always move out west to Alberta , Manitoba , Saskatchewan if they want to do other kinds of labour jobs in mines etc.

Something tells me , all this is NOT for your friends..he he . You are just asking that under the guise of your friends ..he he..but the reality is that you want this for you :) ..the cat is out of the bag.

This is part of your PLAN B , to come back to Canada for sometime again after 4 yrs in India , maybe NOT permanently , but atleast for the near future..he he .

Good try Adam.
I guessed that some one will ask this question but I did not expect this from you.

Do you know that I stayed 9 years in GTA/KW area and did 3 professional jobs?

I burnt my bridges only in one company. I am sure that in one week I can get my job back for around $ 15 an hour.

Even in the job that I burnt my bridge, I can always go back and apologize and get my job back. I got about $ 3000 severence (which my boss did not want to give but was forced by the Govt. to give) and I can tell him that I will pay it $ 300 every month. That offic is in desperate need to have a person who can do the job like me and so he will hire me back.

If I was to return to Canada, I will straight away land at Pearson and stay at a homeless shelter (GTA) for the first few days. Then I will go looking for jobs in the 3 companies that I have been before and agree to work for low wages (Min $ 15 an hour). 2 of these bosses own a lot of basements that they rent out and I will ask to stay in one of those for a year (free) till I find my own place.

If at all, I donot get a professional job, I have a lot of my friends who are working as supers in factories and may be through them I will get a labour job. One of the negetive points is that I surrendered my DL and will have to get it again. DL is a pain in the a$$ to get it in Canada.

If at all I was to leave India, I prefer Gulf to Canada.

Toronto couples with kids must make $18.52 per hour each to get by, report finds - The Star

No wonder Toronto / GTA required more immigrants to increase the population.

Another reason why we Desi's have to search for other destinations instead of Toronto / Vancouver / Montreal / Calgary / Edmonton to survive.

As of now Guptaji has made me recommend Saskatoon.
