So, according to the link you provided with:

"This is to inform that vide Gazette Notification No.26011/01/2014IC.I dated 09.01.2015, all PIO cards issued till 09.01.2015 are deemed to be OCI card."

What is the need of applying OCI in lieu of PIO card then? What would happen to the valid until date on the PIO card? Are they considering it lifelong even if the PIO card says it's valid until, e.g. 2030?

-- Though they have not stated it explicitly (and they should, because it is confusing), it certainly looks like applying for OCI (when you have a PIO) is not mandatory. They even mention that the Indian immigration authorities will stamp your OCI card as "Lifelong".

Looks like everyone who has a PIO will have to apply to convert it to OCI in 3 months.

The process is similar to applying for an OCI card. This is not good news.

-- Looks like you do not HAVE to apply for the OCI card, your PIO will be treated like the OCI. See this:

http://www.cgisf.org/page/display/30/231

The information in that link you provided is old news - that PIO cards in circulation are deemed to be OCI with lifelong validity.

Unfortunately, all Indian missions do not update their websites at the same time, some are lagging way behind others.

See the links below for the latest info:

http://www.in.ckgs.us/pio.shtml

"Initially for a period of 3 months until 17 June, 2015, submission of the application for OCI card in lieu of PIO card will be voluntary.
However, after the initial period of 3 months from 18 June 2015, it will be made mandatory."

India only checks that when you APPLY for a visa.

But if you already have the visa/oci/pio they don't care when you exit or enter India with a PP with less than 6 months validity.

As long as its not expired they don't care.

I am still confused by these various conflicting news . If we have PIO card then do we have to get OCI in three months i.e before 17 June? I am asking this because I am visiting Indian on 28th June and not sure whether do I need to get OCI card before that or I can visit using my PIO card.

Nobody knows what's cooking.

Send an email to the consulate. I did but as expected they never replied.

Don't forget to report back if u get an answer from them.

I called BLS and spoke to one of the rep. As per her , I can use PIO card to visit India and notice which is there on the cgitoronto website is for PIO application ?????or something. As per her we can use PIO card to visit India till it's validity.

As usual she made me more confuse. I will call B#@ll S&#t Canada again and will try to speak to diff rep, lets see what he/she says.
