Good effort by the Canadians.
There is a trend going on in India, where they are asking not to donate to any NGO but only to the PM relief fund. So may be that is what you should do in Canada too. Donate to Red Cross.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/27/asia/nepal-quake-india-aid/index.html

Quote:

New Delhi, India (CNN)As the earth shook in Nepal, tremors were felt over the border in India as well.

It was a call to action: Within hours of the first 7.8 magnitude quake, India began planning a massive cross-border aid mission.

With each hour, the scale of the devastation in Nepal became clearer -- some 3,862 people are known to have died so far -- and plans in India, where 72 people were also killed, got bigger.

On Sunday alone, India delivered 187 tons of supplies, including 50 tons of water, 22 tons of food and 2 tons of medicine. And there will be more to come.

Hundreds of trained disaster relief troops landed in Kathmandu and quickly got to work.

With each flight in, there was a flight back out, packed with Indians and other nationals escaping to safety: 2,000 and counting have fled so far.

By Monday, India was in full-scale crisis mode: From airports across India, planes flew in loaded with aid, and trucks made the trip by land from India's east, aiming for more remote areas.

On the ground: Devastation in Nepal

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a special effort over Nepal. He has visited the country twice in his first year in office.

And on Sunday, in his national radio address to the nation, he said Indians needed to "wipe the tears of every Nepali, hold their hands, and stand with them."

When Nepal was groaning in earthquake, Christian Missionaries were shamelessly selling Jesus

Nepal Earthquake is a big tragedy. Bigger tragedy will be their culture and history getting wiped out by conversion quacks.

Sadly this country will go back to the stone age :(..besides tourism, they don't really have any other industry to speak of and no economy as such besides that...that industry is destroyed for the near future.

Travel and tourism is going to be devastated in this poor country for ages to come..this is just the beginning :(

The indirect loss of life through poverty , job losses, no income, diseases, sanitation, destruction of infrastructure, loss of tourist is going to be far greater :(

Nepal and India has treaty - India will do it best to bring back Nepal in good standing, especially BJP/RSS which will proud to bring only Hindu nation to its feet.

Lets hope Modi's proven track record of handling such calamity will help better manage the things for Nepal as well

afterall Gurkha's have been sacrificing their life for India so its now india's turn to pay back.

You are very right. India should make Nepal stand on its feet. And definitely NaMo will give top priority.

Apart from this, it will be better for the world to think ahead of our times and stop measurement of countries prosperity in terms of material prosperity.

Nepal is in the lap of Himalayas which produces the great rivers that take care of the water needs of the sub-continent and China. For economic development making it another Detroit will be foolish. We have already done destroyed Ganges downstream. Whether it is religion or economics or laws the developed West adopts the one size fits all approach.

A few weeks back Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev beautifully explained about the geography and spirituality of Nepal that at once we were tempted to go on a visit to the country. Nepal can be made the learning centre for the countries of the world as to how to conduct themselves.
