Let us discuss about safety measures to be taken and documents to travel to USA i.e Florida/Houston. which is the best motel/hotel and later on rental apartment to stay for 2-3 months in Houston?

Which is the cheapest way to travel to Florida i.e car/plane?

Which is the reasonably good motel/Hotel in Florida for one week and places of interest to visit in Florida.?

Is it safe for me to stay with 2 small children?? what precautions to be taken?

thanks in advance for all the reply and ur precious time. :) have a fabulous day!

1. Plane is the cheapest if you can drive to Buffalo or take a bus to Buffalo & take a flight from Buffalo airpot as opposed to flight from Pearson airport. Flight can be 1/2 or even 1/3 sometimes.

2. Car is not worth it . Florida is more than 20 hrs drive. You will have to take a halt or stay somewhere in between. Plus the stress of driving , getting into an accident, gas, insurance etc.

3. Any big motel chain should be OK . Don't go for some mom & pop motel chain. Check reviews & photos on tripadvisor etc . See the link below ..reserach done by some woman on Motels in US.

Cheap motel chains on our USA road trip :

http://www.wheressharon.com/family-trip-usa-caribbean/road-trip-usa/cheap-motels-usa/

On an average you will only pay $ 15 - $ 20 more per day between a good motel & bad motel per day..so not worth trying to save the few bucks ! Not much difference between a $ 60 bucks motel & $ 75 bucks motel as far as price is concerned..but the difference in quality & safety is HUGE.

The cheap motels will have hookers , drug dealers , bed bugs , bad toilet , lot of noise , shady locations, bed bugs , violence, theft etc ..ALL this bcoz you were trying to save 20 bucks a night !

4. If you have kids don't travel much at night ..try to get home by 7.00 pm - 8.00 pm . Keep cell phone & 911 etc handy. Get a local SIM card if you want for cheap calls. Have proper maps , GPS etc with you.

5. Florida with Kids .

Orlando is the best for visit with kids for Disney World , Universal Studios etc.

Miami is mostly good for adults with clubs, parties etc, night life ..not so much for young kids.

Beaches in St. Petersburg like Clearwater beach is also good.

6. Rental apartment you can only know after seeing the local classifieds over there for short term rentals. 2-3 months should be easy to find.

7. main thing DON'T FORGET MEDICAL INSURANCE ..

if you have to visit a doctor or hospital in US without insurance you will ge thousands of dollars in medical bills ! OHIP won't cover you..lot of people forget that & take a chance with medical ! Even a day trip to US , you should carry medical insurance or you will be wiped out , if something happens.

I feel sorry for those who lost their near and dear ones due to the flooding. I will not be making a trip towards Texas in the near future.

If any one wants to discuss this carry a boat on the roof rack or look for a GONDOLIER.!

It is still raining there as I write this. Poor people are suffering. It is no time to make a joke.

Oklahoma is also in a similar situation.

don't worry, wherever I go, real estate booms within one year of my landing. I was in Dubai frm 2001-2009 the Dubai was on top as never before. I came to Toronto in 2009 and within one year real estate boom started. Now it's USA's turn. ;-)
