Mr. Pandya,
It is generally not worth the hassle.
LCD's are no more found in India. I have a 32 Samsung LED bought in 2011 for Rs. 33,000. Something went wrong after a year and they asked Rs 16,000 to fix it.
Now new LED (no name) 32 inches is Rs.16,000 and Branded LED (32";) start from Rs. 23,000.

Once your LED get a repair, you will have to throw it out.

However, if you have nothing else to carry, then bring it on.

Customs will try to give you problem since TV's now have a import duty (new ones) and you will have to convince them that it is a old one. If they give too much problem, threaten to throw it in the garbade and it works. they will let you pass.

As Adam said, 40" will be oversize and may cost you $ 200 in extra baggage (unless it is checked in free. They do it when the airline like Emirates is not fully booked and has space).

in India, the range starts from 25K (no name ones) and goes to 35K for branded ones.

In India LCD is no longer in use. Only LED's are here.

Hi
Tamilkuravan
The price of 40" tv (branded) is around 40k,
If i pay $100 at the custom , then also its cheap deal for me.
and again , the maintenance of the tv in india is no problem for me as i have my tv repairing shop in india.
I just want to know how approximately how much i need to pay at custom.
Thanks

If you don't have any other dutiable items , then only pay on the difference ..as first Rs. 35,000 are Duty Free.

So if they value the Tv at Rs. 40,000 only pay on the difference i.e Rs. 5,000.

Its around 36 % duty BTW.

But some are NOW saying LED/LCD don't qualify as exemption for Rs. 35,000..so double check that :(

No one will tax a second hand TV and that too an LCD.
Just threaten to throw it away, if taxed. They will let you go.

Customs target only Sony TV's. In fact they will laugh at you.

Actually I am leaving to Chennai from Kerala today by Air India. In Kerala , dumping of plastic bags is banned. I am checking in garbage plastic bags to be dumped in Chennai.

It will be an over-sized baggage, Airlines may refuse it (due to its fragility and size) . If it must reach India at any cost, you can chose to ship. Other way is to get your tv exchanged into a smaller 32" TV through kijiji, if somebody is interested and take along the smaller.
