Plus the water they use for Chutney's , Gol Gappas and other cooking is filled in filthy plastic container's in filthy dirty PUBLIC TOILETS !

This water is NOT even boiled but just filled in dirty public toilets and used straight in the chutneys etc.

You won't even take a shit in these filthy dirty PUBLIC toilets in INDIA, but these people fill dirty water over there and use it for street food, and you eat the same food..LOL.

In the meantime, you have Aquaguard and boiled water at home in India as you don't want to drink tap water. The tap water isnatleast better than the public toilet water in India, which people relish :)

Adam,
Not at all the places and I am not sure that you donot mean all the places.
The decent ones that I have been (even the Amma canteen which serves 1 idly for Rs 1 with free sambar and chutney) uses RO water which is the best water.
I go to pothy's shopping centre and the water is all aqua guard water and still they sell chai for Rs 6 and Coffee for Rs 10 and Masala dosai for Rs 40.

Yes. If you buy at a eatery which is near the gutter and where water is not available, then this is possible. Now a days even in road side carts, people use head covering and plastic gloves to dispense food.

Not sure what class of road side eating places are you referring here - if it is the utmost lowest end (like near a railway station or a bus stand ) then may be yes what you say may be true.

You should know where to eat and buy food from ...Now don't tell me that you never brought or ate sweets from India purchased from sweet shops ... that too you should know the better good ones.

Being cautious is one thing but being obsessed and generalizing everything - something entirely different.... What you imagine and generalize over in your above post may not apply to good upscale or middle scale popular eating places ... otherwise you would have a food poisoning epidemic in India.

This thread reminds me of 'Delhi Belly' :)

I learned from my parents & Now I never allow my kids to eat street food

I'm so thankful I had no parents to stop me from eating at these filthy places because of which my immunity is high and I don't have to worry about eating at any place now.

What makes you think that only people at the street side stalls are dirty? Do you know for sure that the workers at the fancy restaurants don't scratch their balls or pick their nose? Do you know for sure that their sweat does not drip into the food that you and your family relish each time you visit those fancy restaurants?

WAKE UP PEOPLE. Almost all the people in India have poor hygiene, and almost all the restaurant kitchens (maybe, with the exception of 5-star) are filthy with rodents and roaches living there. AND YOU KNOW WHAT, IT'S OKAY, BECAUSE OVER A PERIOD OF TIME OUR BODIES DEVELOP IMMUNITY. YES, EVEN TO FECES AND URINE. Have you not heard of Morarji Desai who used to drink urine? Or the many people who still continue to do so?

Speaking of E. coli, even North Americans have a lot of cases of E. coli. I know it because I work in the medical field.

AND FINALLY, YES EATING AT THESE PLACES POSES A SERIOUS RISK IF YOU ARE AN IMMUNOCOMPROMISED PERSON or SOMEONE WHOSE IMMUNITY IS NOT DEVELOPED BECAUSE THEY ATE ONLY 'STERILE' FOOD FROM THEIR CHILDHOOD.

This is more than just upset stomach . .or Delhi Belly.

We are talking about Cholera, Typhoid , Hepatitis C etc , which easily pass thru contaminated food , drink and water, at these places..so its more than just Ecoli.

You are not going to develop immunity to the above bcoz, your parents allowed you to eat at filthy places as a child..the only cure is prevention and not eating at these places. Sure you can get this stuff at high places to, but the chances are much higher at street level..a chances you don't want to take :(

I don't want to deviate from the topic. Every time I packed my suitcase for travels, I took a shot of TWINRIX and always carried Imodium or equivalent tablets for my travels. Prior to that I also took the Chloroquine starter and then bought my supply there in India just to provide me with a peace of mind.

IT worked. I am still here am I not. That speaks for itself.

Most of the places I used boiled water (Cooled in the refrigerator) at home. Brackish, but palatable. It is not like Lake Ontario Water/Great lakes water.

I know I played Basketball and I knew about the Three Second Rule. You believe in the Three second rule? OR you throw it into the Garbage??

OP & Mcg7 & AT - Did you never eat sweets from Indian shops or visited restaurants while in India ?? Or may be you just got lucky that the worker did not scratch his balls while making that sweet :D

For one 90% of urban Indian population eats out at one time or the other ...I wonder why most of them do not have cholera or typhoid or food poisoning every time or most of the times . Either the above violations don't happen everywhere or people have developed immunity to them .

Second thing - You DO develop immunity when put in the concerning atmosphere . One reason why docs here also encourage allergic people to sustain their periods in allergy orienting atmosphere so as to develop an immunity to it....

Heard on a train ride in India ' Hume nal ka paani peene kee itnee aadat ho gayi hai kee agar kisi ne mineral water pilaa deeya to tabiyat kharaaab ho jayegi ' :)
