Assuming WagonR LXi would be 4 lacs and Indica LX 5 lacs , does the choice tilt towards Indica or Wagon R considering that the Indica is diesel and in an upper segment ??

Same reply as for Indica vs. Alto. Wagon R has got lot of height and is the car for tall people. Other than that, there is no other difference between an Alto and a Wagon R.

Wagon R is also great for old people. So if the OP's friend has to drive around his old parents, then Wagon R would be a good choice besides doubling as a family car. Similar advantage with Hyundai.

Thanks for all the opinion and advices . Genuinely appreciated .

Here's what I understand. Tata Indica (the latest EV2 LX) appears to be a highly underrated car because of its taxi image.

Its more powerful , spacious , more comfortable for passengers and economical than an Alto / Wagon R and in a superior segment than either of them (perhaps the same as Swift etc).

It appears to be a bargain for its price and is a value for money. The top end model for 5 lacs had 14 inch tires , power windows , central locking , internally power adjustable mirrors , engine immobilizer etc. and almost everything except ABS and airbags.

The taxi image - well that also proves that the car is economical ... (remember we had Ambassador diesel @ one time , then Maruti vans , then Maruti vans with gas cylinder and then Indica)

But the question remains - Is it comfortable to drive for people to use it as a personal vehicle as compared to the Alto or the Wagon r ?

I shall share all this info with him and advise him to test drive for himself and finalize ... This has been helpful.

Not a car expert here, Fido, but Suzuki brands have better reputation as longer lasting cars than Tata brands, perhaps one more reason for their higher resale value. You can confirm with experts if Tata cars depreciate quicker.

The dealer is a reputed one for MUL cars in the city and sells only their brand. He was careful display his cars (all Maruti) on the showroom floor with reputed brand tyres. Assumed that it would be one of these which was wrong on my part. Contacted unofficially one of the Service Engineers for Maruti, who said he had been using these "Chinese" tyres for 2 years and had no problem. Anyhow, plan to change the tyres after about 2 years or about 25,000 kms, on my own.

WagonR VX1 on road price was 5.13 lacs as of last month.

What I still do not understand is that why are show room cars showing branded tires and delivered cars Chinese tires ?

MUL should be having a consistent policy towards tires .... unless they allow dealers to put them per their discretion ...
