Why I brought this up and what jolted me was that I always felt that education lifted people both economically and for understanding life better and that I also felt that more educated a person would be , less prone would he be to blind faith / religion just because education elevates a person and gives him better understanding of things esp when it harms others .
But with the example of Yaqub Memon and the other PhD VIA terror suspect , I stand shockingly corrected ....Appears when it comes to faith and religion , people remain blind despite their education level.
And I was equally appalled at finding a crowd gathering @ his Mahim residence ... Being sentenced as a National Terrorist and a disgraced man , how could people (other than immediate family) have the guts to come and pay their condolences .... for by doing so they are disrespecting the innocents who where killed as results of Yaqub Memon's actions.

Not surprising that it is reverse..
I have observed educated people in India, doctors, IAS, engineers, lawyers etc. ask for more dowry, will trouble in-laws, do more frauds in professional life. Educated lot is more religious and do all kind of 'adambar' in life. Best of minds succumb to social pressure and religious stupidity. Nothing new. Look around you will find many. Watch them and Enjoy, its fun :-).

Exactly! I chuckle every time I meet such people. There's one in my acquaintance circle (in his 40s) that out rightly leaves the restaurant in between his meals, if he comes to know the place is owned by a Muslim. He had the audacity to disclose us that at the Diwali Party he arranged/organized last year (paid, and at the banquet hall), he made it a point to not invite any Muslim. He's been in this country for the past 15 years, and is an Engineer. He's actually a part of the local Mandir Management - the same place that Modi visited last year. Such a despicable and hateful life, man!
I strongly believe, our Grandparents' generation was more saner with less education, and was more moderate and liberal. At least mine were.
High IQ doesn't equate to the high social intelligence after all. To top it all, Religion ka tadka laga do, which further clouds one's mind to another level.

This is not true.
The reason why the educated lot that you have referred to, are not kosher in their conduct in life is largely due to the fact that they neither have the fear of God nor do they have the fear of law.

Or do you mean fear of God is main factor which prevents crime in world and without it , humans will go berserk ?
By Stats, 99% of people who go to temples, mosque, gurudwara , hail praise jai mata di/ Radhe maa/ Asaram (PBUH) DAILY are 'educated' businessmen and then they open their shop evade taxes, con people and hoard money whole day. Where as 'un-educated' Laborers and farmers wait for occasion or mela to flock such places (more of a break for them ). As I said watch around closely , you will have fun ;-)
