During the 2008/09 recession, I used to apply for 20 jobs daily through workopolis and job bank.ca. Not even one call.

You need to hit the ground to search for Gas station jobs. Walk into GAs stations near your home and ask for job. Better to approach no name ones as they will pay you in cash and you will be able to also get EI (if applicable). No name gas stations invite lesser work and lower wages but it is worth it.

Try taking the night shift (if possible for you). You can study from mid night . Your only customers will be somali taxi drivers who fill up at the night before they head home for the day.

If you need some reference, there is a no name gas sation at Jane street and Dundas street west intersection run by a punju. he may be able to give you a job.

Also walk into Mac Donalds and Tim Hortons to see if they have a job for you.

All the best.

Patel Bhai

Dont worry about it .. Get a security licensed for now - work in night shift

there are so many adds going on for security training licensed - its just one day course and you are certified as security guard :) :) :)

- btw: what is your priority - u mentioned you want to work in Gaz statation - being Patel i'm assuming you are looking to get into business in future . if that is you plan then there are so many Gaz stations available and you can easily find nightshift there and gain experience .

but just for job : security job is best for new commerce or you can get forklift licensed - both are easily available by going for one day training

Blue Peafowl:
I have seen you mention (twice within the last month) to get security licence and work security job.

Is it easy to get a job? I donot think so (2009 status).

When I came to Canada in 2002, people said the same thing. I attended some security interviews. The crowd was large. They prefer Gora's and Gora's and Gori's are in large numbers. It is difficult to get on TTC network. In desolate areas, it may be a little easy to get it , provided you have car. Also there is much competition from parents of immigrants who also flood the market.

I was told by a sri lankan refugee who came to Canada in the 90's that he actually finished college education due to this job. He said that he took the nigh shift and studied his college lessons and did college assignments by doing security jobs.

Bottom line : almost impossible to get this job unless you have solid contacts or unless you are a Gora.

You can disagree with me, by stating facts and real time situation.

YES TK , it's easiest and fastest job to find - ALMOST GUARANTEE

i have seen so many people got job as security guard - that is the easiest job you can find.

especially - find training center which offers job

i know many started that way , even some old folks MID 50'S has been working as a SECURITY Gaurd -

there are lot of demand for security jobs because most of the company get insurance benefits hiring security personnel. - Let me remind you its a easiest but BORING JOB - but good for survival

NOTE: do not go on Stats - they are mostly wrong :) :)

TK : i missed this line "

Bottom line : almost impossible to get this job unless you have solid contacts or unless you are a Gora."

No you are very wrong on this ( i'm sorry ) - This is the easiest job to find -

Its prefer to have Car but you can get job even without having cars - lot of condos/ apartment building, hospital etc... needs security personnel due to insurance clause

We are not talking about BAR/BANK/Corporate security - this jobs are low level , they need one personnel to keep eye on property

Yes i second you Blue peafowl. its easy to get security guard job. Two of my friend who came to canada with me, did 5 days course, gave exam and now placed by the institute. But the problem is security jobs are all available in Toronto and I am styaing in Brampton.
And yes Blue_peafowl I want to make money from my profession in a short time to support investment in a business.
