1)Myself and my family of 3 have got the landing papers for PR under the FSW scheme, I am the principal applicant, but my family wants to land first in Canada and around 1 week later I want to come. Is it possible?

2)My family will stay back in Canada whereas I would like to move out for 2-3 months. What is the time taken for the PR card to arrive?

Thanks

Udey

In each Permanent Resident Visa there is a date of its validity, you must enter Canada before the expiry of this specific date. As a rule it is within a year after the medical examination. The immigration law allows that first, the principal applicant, who can enter Canada and the rest of the family can come later but certainly before the expiry date on the Permanent Resident Visa. So, try and abide by it. You have to land together with the following. :

So, Travel together. Also bring in proof of funds to go with it. Plus all of the originals of all of the Documents to establish yourself.

2) Yes you can leave and return after YOU receive YOUR CARD. You must have the card on you. (Alternately some one can receive and COURIER it to you and you can show it at the entry or Book a ticket for travel.

Currently it takes 84 days for the processing. It is in the time frame they mention, which is a week old. See link provided. ( link.: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp )

1. Principal Applicant must land first , dependents alone cannot do so.
2. 2-3 months is sufficient time to receive PR card at home. In case you are travelling out of Canada and planning to re-enter Canada by road , then PR card is not required. Landing paper (COPR) does the trick. It means only if you are entering through US. Flying to Canada without PR card will be an issue. The carrier will not let you board without it.

On side note, here is a little story I know.
There is one known case (a friend couple ), got medicals and passport request but at that stage of application got divorced. The principle applicant refused to go for medicals, had no intention to immigrate. The dependent then did medicals and sent his passport with an explanation letter and proof of divorce. His file was cleared, . In this case dependent flew with out primary applicant.

You can leave Canada without getting the PR card but when you want to come again, you need to get a travel document from the CHC or Consulate office by showing your visa to get in to Canada again.

Thanks for the responses.

Is there a facility in urgency that can speed up the PR card processing?
