Hello,
I just got speeding ticket at Pearson airport (Terminal 1). I was at 70km/hr. at 30 km/hr. zone... Honestly I did not see the sign.
Police officer told me that if this is regular road than you are entitled to get 4 demerit points and $285 fine. I requested to Police officer and told him very sorry and convince him that I did not see the sign and it was my mistake. He reduced speeding ticket to 40km/hr. instead of 70 km/hr. and give a ticket for $40.
Police officer told me that Airport speeding rules are different than regular speeding rules and he told me do not worry it won't go against your driver license record and your insurance won't go up in next renewal. This ticket will be consider just like parking ticket……Is it true?
Could you please advise is my insurance will go up on next renewal? Will it show on my driving license record?
Should I go and just pay or any other suggestions??
Your help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Speeding ticket is a speeding ticket and it will show up as minor ticket on your record. Check under which Hwy traffic act this ticket was issued. If nothing specified, you can go free.

Don't pay upfront . Never pay upfront especially in a moving violation.
Request for a trial ... Your options will be generated then.
The option you have now will most likely be bettered by the Prosecutor before the trial and in case by chance the cop does not show up on Trial date , you go free !!

so the ticket is for "traffic on the landside of airports regulations, section 5"
If I plead guilty on this, does it stay on my record like normal speeding tickets do?
As your ticket says 40 km/hr, which is just 10 km/hr more, you should go for trial.. when you see the officer tell him that you didn't see the limit and you were following the same speed as others.
Most likely he ll let it go.
Just ensure you don't repeat this, for your own safety and also they do keep history.
Officers try to say things such as this will not impact one's driving record , insurance etc. They say this so that you don't fight it which will be an easy win for the officer and easy money as well. Make them earn each penny of the 40$ which means fight every ticket you can.Sometimes it is in other state/province etc and if due to geographical limitations you cant then its ok but fight every ticket. The below are the advantages
1. You dont pay the fine immideately
2. There is a high chance the officer does not turn up etc.
A conviction is a conviction and the insurance companies will increase rates . So just fight it unless you have very strong reasons for not fighting. And another thing never admit or say anything to the police officer. Always say that you were going at the right speed.
