Namaste to All Canadian Desis,

It is really nice and motivating to see so many Desis in a Western Country and helping the new Indians settling here in Canada. So, here's another Desi from Delhi who has immigrated to Canada as a permanent resident :D
Its been more than a month already in the Country and I couldn't find the Job. So, after talking to many people here, what I could realize is that it is very important to have a local education in order to get a Job.
Now, I am pretty confused that which course will be suitable for me as I have a background in Accounting / Auditing.
I found this course from H&R Block in basic taxation quite interesting to give a start to my career in Canada.

https://www.strategicprofitsinc.com/hosted/hrblock/tax_school/student_info.php#undertop

Request you all to please let me know if anyone has done this course or can suggest ??
Also, I want to do a short term course in Accountancy or Masters (Co-op) course from a University, which one should I choose and which can help me in finding the right Job.

Many Thanks

This course & other courses from SOFTRON etc are a joke ! Its just to make money of you & then telling you that you will get a job doing taxes for others.

Doing taxes in Canada is extremely easy. Most people use extremely user friendly software like Quick Tax , UFile etc to do their taxes.

so you will get almost NO work from Canadians to file their tax returns. Don't waste your time & money doing these stupid tax preparation courses.

If you are unemployed there is definitely advantage in joining the course. This is your opportunity to get first hand experience of Canadian taxation system and get paid for it.

The system is quite simple and straightforward but you will find lots of desis and other new comers coming to you to do taxes for $35~$55 for 1/2 hours work.

If you don't find employment, go for it. Nothing to lose.

AT, sometimes you take things so far away from reality. If there was no need for tax preparation people, all these companies will be bankrupt and all these people would have been jobless.

There is no harm in doing this course at all. At best, it will provide you with seasonal employment with long hours in the first few months of the year. At worst, you can still be in this business doing it part-time along with some other job that you may find.

With all the -ve comments going on within almost every post and members calling names, I was keeping away from responding, hence my earlier post about sending the OP a PM. Thanks to Hiren and RC for responding, I'm motivated to respond.

People on this site who know me, also know that my wife has been in this business for almost 20 years. She initially started working with H&R for a couple of years and for the past 17 years or so has been working for Softron Tax. Softron is a direct competitor to H&R. It started off as a small set-up around 20+ years ago and has since expanded. Best to check out their website for a list of locations.

If you search for my earlier post about "Tax", there are tons that I have responded to.

I would suggest get in touch with Softron. This is the time of the year when the tax courses are delivered.

As others have said, you'll at least be guaranteed a job during the tax season and possibility of employment beyond that. With a year or so of experience, you should be in a position to start a side business.

Another CD who is in this profession is Pramod Chopra. I'm sure he'll respond when he comes across this post.

Softron and H&R block have more than enough workers to do this job and every year their work is getting less and less. Actually they have excess workers, who don't have enough work during tax season :(

These tax courses are nothing but a scheme to generate more income from themselves. Most people will get NO work, Part Time or Seasonal or anything after doing these courses.

But H&R block and Softron will make some coin from the students :)
