Airline Taxes
The number of hidden airline fees you pay in North America have caused many to look for alternate forms of transportation. Here’s a brief overview of the charges that make the money fly out of your wallet:
Canada:
Air Travel Security tax: ($12 each way, $24 round trip)
NAV Canada Surcharges: $20 round trip within Canada, $15 round trip to U.S.
Fuel Surcharges: Approx. $15 in Canada one way, depending on the current price of oil. $27-30 one way for U.S. flights.
Airport Improvement Fee: Can be up to $15 or more, depending on the airport
G.S.T.: added to the cost of your ticket.
Insurance Surcharges: $3 each way

Sept. 11 Security Fee: $10 roundtrip.
Passenger Facility Charges: $18 (equivalent to Cdn. Airport Improvement Fee)
Air Traffic Control Segment Tax: Up to $3
Excise Taxes: 7.5%
Immigration Fee: $7
