Excellent advise by San Hugo and BF but conveniently ignored as it may not be in line with what OP is seeking .
I know it is really hurting when you lose a job but as advised earlier you are better off to focus on the things that are under your control . Fighting an employer may only lead to more money and time waste . I am not implying to give up completely but your focus should be more on securing another job and side ways you can look for options to get EI etc .
Running around without a job won't be easy either .
I only wish that you chose the right path instead of easy .
Good luck with your decision .

P.S: Look at the giant electronic retailers like Future shop and Sony who could not survive in the struggling economy . May be its time to look at other venues of income . Sorry if it sounds easier than done .

I work in sales, they give unreasonable targets, blame sales consultants for other dept mistakes, give very long working shifts, force you to lie and achieve targets OR quit and go. work culture is all about lies, blame game , and selfishness, dog eat dog culture.
It was not very bad before , I worked 5 years , but last 1 year plus , things got worse
So i wanna explore to see if I can go EI for depression and have some time to find meaningful job, I will be 40 yrs very soon, have family and kids, really worried about my future.
I don't want to take another survival job with NO future

OP,
After reading a couple of your posts, I realize that your main aim is to get EI to study Second career or sit at home for some time with your EI. You also have become bored after working for 5 years in the same company with the same job.
During boom times, it is natural that there is a lot of sales and that you are able to meet targets. We are now living in depressed time (in Canada) and hence you may not be able to meet target like before. If you are working with a registered company like "The Brick", you may not able to pull a fast one.
I have heard of depression stories but not sure how you can prove this to the doctor and get a ground for getting EI. It may run in to years, as your family doctor will refer to a Shrink and the Shrink may have his own waiting time and the Shrink may not accept that your depression is because of your work.
As said, if you work with reputed companies like "The Brick" or "Best buy", it is hard for you to get a "Laid off" from them. Fighting with them and getting a "Fired" from them is also tricky as they record your meeting.
There is a tricky solution and that is to speak with your manager and ask him to give you a "Laid off". If you are a Gora you will get it but being a Desi, it can be a double edged sword. Your Manager may see that you are trying to leave and may not give you a
"Laid off" but put you with more work and you may have no other option execpt to " Quit".
Another option (if they are not recording your conversation), will be to fight with them and let them sack you. If they are bg company, many times that may give you a "Laid off". If they write "Fired", then you can write to EI but sometimes, these people will come with company lawyers. Though EI will mostly be in the employee's favour, nothing is guarenteed.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
The company has nothing to gain by making you part-time and then letting you go. They can simply go for layoffs if there isn't that much work. You should talk to your supervisor if they ask you to become part-time that you would prefer to be laid off instead of part-time job.
Retail is a struggling business with competition from e-tailers, so targets will likely only become harder as time goes by.
As far as second career goes, you will have to choose your field after a lot of thought and some market survey. It is easier said than done that one will start a new career in their 40s.

it might be tough decision but it's not impossible ...

Yes , very good motivation from all you guys, I am pretty low in life and took few depression tests online and score very high on depression, only difference is local gora/white go on depression , stress leave for even little stress but desis wait till heart attack
I am exploring high paid career options, which i can do for next 20 years before retirement ,
If doctor assist i will go EI for health , so i can have some time to get my mind straight
Kacchu ...
Depression will not get you EI ( tough) , it may give you sick leave for while but getting EI will be tough
there is another simple way to get EI - but i'm not sure what is your present situation, however , i assume if you are really tired and really want the break then there is way.
Move out from GTA for time being - get a break from daily routine life. ( there is catch) , you need spouse - you will get layoff if you move out and give reason that you are moving out to support your family - ( you may have to lie about your spouse getting job and you are accompanying her)
