Yes, the older Durangos have a sumptuous engine - either the 4.7L or the 5.4 (I think). Both V8s. Mine is a 4.7L V8 which will put an alcoholic to shame with its gas guzzling. But, it accelerates with quite an impression and has a smooth ride at highway speeds.
Journey is ok, but mostly a meh.

The idea of 7-8 seater is great, but it tends to be a gimmick in many cases. The third row which affords the 3 seater can barely hold an adult's butt. My Durango is an 8 seater, but has a skinny third row and once that's up, the cargo space is compromised.
The eight seating is great when we have had to go to a restaurant or travel short trips as a group. It's come handy when I had to pick a bunch of kids from my son's school on behalf of other parents.
That being said, I recently bought a GMC Acadia. The first thing I did was to check out the 2nd and the 3rd row, and surprisingly, they are roomy with plenty of leg space. Acadia comes with a 7 or 8 seater option. The 7 seater has 2nd row captain seats (bucket seats).
What they have done is compressed the hood area by putting a lot of components under the vehicle and expanded the cabin room. Plus, every seat in 2nd and 3rd row folds flat independently, thereby providing customized cargo space.

Has a smooth ride too. My favorite.....the height and brightness adjustable heads up display that projects about 10 feet away from your eyes on the windshield - shows the speed, outside temp, rpm, turn by turn direction if navigation is initiated.
The vehicle is a gas guzzler, however, has quite a bit of positive rating on safety.

Despite that
Today I 'll be all yes for SUV,
Great post San Hugo ...
For the few times I have sat / driven a SUV , I have not felt as comfortable as a sedan ... heightened sitting posture , more pull because of the same while braking / turning etc.
A friend who owns a Blue Tec diesel SUV and an Acura 3.2 sedan also shared the same opinion regarding maneuverability ease.
So tell me - as compared to your Accord , do you find driving in SUV s equally / more comfortable ??
And the q is for others also .... I feel that though SUV s may have the size and the weight , they may be relatively uncomfortable coz of their height..
Minivans for some reason I feel may be more comfortable vs SUV ...Please correct me as this might affect my next purchase .

On the contrary, the extra height makes it more comfortable to enter/exit the vehicle as well as long drives. The lower seating in sedans is very tiring on long drives.
SUV and VAN both offer similar seating - with SUV higher on comfort/looks and VAN higher on capacity and safety.
Good luck on your next purchase.
