Hi,

My parents left Canada in 2008, since they could not settle well and returned to Dubai. From Dubai now we are back in India, I am pursuing my graduation in fine arts in Delhi and want to pursue masters in Canada.

Now, my questions are:

1) When applying for student visa will my expired PR status be a roadblock?
2) After coming over to Canada, and spending 2 years can I renew my PR?

Frankly when my parents moved back I didn't have much say.

Please advice

Sunjoy

Pursue Masters in US if you want. Not Canada.

Much better universities , much better quality of education and much better chances of integration in the society. Canadian universities are a joke and a laughing stock. You will get better education in India than over here.

Only advantage of doing MS in Canada was lower fees as a PR and not international students fees which are usually 3 times more.

But since you are NO longer a PR, that cost advantage of resident cheaper student fees is not there for you, so you might as well go to US.

I don't think people migrate abroad to buy books or things. And internet speeds do not affect that.

Fine Arts I am not so sure but we have had similar situation and query where the person was in IT and if I am not wrong, people advised him here to migrate.

There are people who make it big here and they are who do not. Like I said it depends on your skill set and the demand for those skills. IT and Accounting / Pharmacists - even electricians / plumbers / tradespeople are in demand here. Same goes for medical pros also.

In the end your parents love you more than anyone else and your father has been here and he knows you better than anyone else - heed his advice before you decide.

You can pave their way and you can build a stairway into Canada. It is a great country to get into.

Good Luck.

FH.

I LOL ed big time at this.

Reactivate their dreams ?? More like their Nightmare called Canada !!

10 yrs Back when they came, they just had to live for 3 yrs on PR to get CAD citizenship, yet they got the hell out of here after they saw the crap here, and let their PR expire, and rightly so :) The best decision of their life was that.

Now they are 10 yrs older ( so things are more tough ) and now have to live for 4 yrs on PR to get CAD citizenship, what on earth makes you think, they will do that ? Once bitten, twice shy.

Great country to get into ?? Maybe for Syrian refugees and Sri Lankan refugees and unskilled labour class.

Obviously not for well qualified and educated foreign professionals like doctors, engineers, CA, architects , MBA's to get into.

All I can say is listen to your Dad ! Your parents know what they are doing.

Do NOT make the same mistake, they did 10 yrs back of coming to Canada. If they thought Canada was good for you and for them, they would have stayed behind.

There is a reason, why they left. That was for your well being. That reason, still remains.

Your parents learnt from their mistake, and so should you.
You will be in a much worse shape if you come here, than they were 10 yrs back when they came.

I will and can guarantee you that !

Thank you Fido and FH, I really appreciate your inputs.

This helps me now focus on next steps, which will be to do my best in Fine arts in India. Complete my masters and from there I will figure my future path.

Just out of curiosity, last week I was at a immigration place and they showed a pile of applications for student visa. All of them going for community college in Canada, from what I gathered professional colleges with decent ranking in India is lot better than these community colleges. Not sure, what these guys are trying to escape.

Community colleges like Sheridan college, Humber College, Seneca College, George Brown college are a JOKE !
Besides looting international students and charging them 3-4 times the local resident fees, they don't do anything else.

International students are a cash cow for these community colleges. You will only see mostly Indian and Chinese international students in these colleges. These poor kids are looted left right and centre for some sub standard Canadian education.

The fat white professor makes $ 100,000 a year on the backs of these poor international students, who come here with high hopes. The kids life gets destroyed and his poor middle class parents in India or China lose their life savings. They are sold the Canadian dream ( nightmare )

Without scamming international students, these community colleges in Canada will go bankrupt.

I personally know, 3 Indian students who did a Project Management Course (PMP ) from one of these Canadian community colleges. None of them got jobs in their field after they graduated.

One went back to India after losing his life savings and his parents.

The other 2 are doing low level survival labour jobs, just to recover the money they spent in coming here, so that they can go back after that !

They are still here since 2009 and are yet to recover that money ! Stuck in a limbo and living in horrible miserable conditions. Shame on Canada for scamming and conning these poor students.

Community colleges like Sheridan college, Humber College, Seneca College, George Brown college are a JOKE - sub standard Canadian education - fat white professor - community colleges in Canada will go bankrupt....hmmm....you are out for a Dangal with an agenda.

I have studied in a community college and have a good job. All my colleagues who are in touch with me are also well settled. Do you think that these community colleges are making fools of thousands of students for so many years?

For PMP, there used to be a course for 6 weeks where they prepare you to write the PMP examination. They don't provide you the skills - they just polish your management skills. To get the job, one should have other soft skills which are more important than getting PMP certification.

Immigration or study abroad is not 'One Size Fits All' sort of thing. Everyone is unique with his/her unique characteristics, qualities, skills, expectations, requirements, goals of life etc. We have exceptions in life. Exceptions cannot become rule.
