I want to understand what people are generally taught to ask in their prayers.
I myself an atheist now, but growing up when I used to pray to my god, I would ask for noble thoughts, good health, long life, peace and prosperity for my loved ones and myself, and that's all.
I didnt ask my god to kill the ones who don't follow his rules. In fact there was not a shred of hatred in our prayers. Our religious activities were purely for ourselves - moral compass- and not to scare others or to get political power.
On the other hand, I see some people pray to god asking to kill those who have different views. The kind of requests they make to god give the impression that they are not talking to the almighty but to a hitman or school bully.
Is your god that insecure? Can't your almighty defend himself?
We were all lied right from birth . I believe Its the survival mechanism that created religion. I used to believe in religion but being in Canada with the internet I too became an atheist.
I don't think any religion preaches to kill directly. but all priest or mullas or intermediaries feels their religion is superior over the other. Religion should essentially be personal but when in group herd mentality takes on.
One may point out that Islam is preaching to kill. I don't think its true,. All the religious people discriminate be it a Hindu,Christians or Muslims. Its just that Muslims are more vocal because mullas pick few scriptures from here and there and misguide the gullible people at a very early age.
Religion is a tool to win power. Poverty and a desire to succeed in social ladder you have to have something. So at this moment its religion. As the society evolve it may change.But without some kind of religion there is no soul. Even atheist did lot of damage to human kind.
There are numerous debates in you tube by great Christopher hitchens and Professor Richard Darkin on this subject.
When I was young, I used to pray for good marks, in teenage for a place in Indian Cricket team, in youth for a great job and now for health.
Killing or harming never was part of my prayer. Further all the prayers end urging God to bestow the world with prosperity and peace

Wonder why any religion or preacher would preach hatred and violence against others ?
Why should there be diktats of violence against people who don't share your beliefs. Especially at a religion level ?

I think it all boils down to the superiority complex some religionists have with respect to other religions- ie. "What I beleive is the only god, what you beleive is garbage."
There is a funny Indian proverb: one monkey says to the other monkey - my bottom is more red than your bottom!
Believing in one's superiority is one thing - let every fool live in their paradise!
However coming down to reality and forcing that paradise on others, if needed violently is another thing and criminal in nature.
And to think that any religion or line of thought would propagate that including the violence - it is not understandable ....it is criminal.
