Please advise which one of these 2 should I buy ..

One is single stage for $300 (already brought but unopened )

And the 2nd one is on sale today for $500 - 2 stage and having gears ... Is it worth extra $200/- and is this one at a good price ?

Some homes that have a drive way and areas that are sloped and needs to clear snow, will call for some thing slightly higher priced because of the incline. A few extra bucks will give you the geared drive and makes it into a breeze. THEY will last a life time and with minimum maintenance. This one is a Battery start. So it will make it even easier. Take good care of the battery, please.

For Toronto winter, single stage is more than enough.

The key is to make a pass as soon as the snow fall ends. As long as it's soft and even wet snow you are fine.

Once it becomes ice and hard, single stage will be tough to remove.

Also see how big it is after assembly, your car might not fit in the garage if the snow blower and lawn mower are too big in size, forcing you to keep the car on the driveway.

Since the quality & reviews of the CT 2 stage ones were dubious , I have retained the single stage for now.

Shoveled the snow first time in life last year and it was not bad .. an hour but slow exercise was not discouraging. In fact what I observed was that most of our neighbors do not have/use snow blowers as opposed to everyone using a lawn mower. I guess it is make doable without a snow blower but not without a lawnmower.

It will take a few months and in the current days of advancement in technology and improvements in serviceable parts in Engineering, things have changed substantially for you to experience any problems immediately. As the Murphy's Law states "If anything can go wrong will go wrong" and at odd times and especially when you need it the most. Also most of these gadgets are warranted for a period that they know it will function well upto that time.

YES, I had a TORO Single stage and left it for the next owner. It lasted for a considerable time and was paid off many times over. I used to help my two neighbors with their side walk clearing also. BUT It was an "HAM and EGGER". It needed a little bit of exercising. But once it got started and got moving, it was a breeze. But it was only good for snow flurries and a small dump. BUT On those days when it was four Inches or more my neighbor helped to clear it with his High Powered geared Snow BLOWER. What I had was a SNOW PUSHER, The one that is in our discussion. I had the spare time but not the access to my neighbors Machine.

These snow falls were intermittent and every year or once ever other year we had ONE to TWO big dumps and I was spared the pain of its removal and i looked to my friends to help me. The Electric starts some times were so so too. Imagine a PULL CORD Machine. they do run. But the Spark Plugs were the old type and not the current Platinum and Iridium types. You will get to know about them soon after an year's run.

No one bothers to look into the mouth of a cheap gift horse. You know what I mean. I look for details and in the initial stages, I did cut a few corners in a few of my purchases. After the advent of the Consumer Reports and Internet research, life became a lot easier and things are now at the finger tips with the newer Smart phones. "Google get me snow Blowers".The next you will see is a hydraulic scissor plat from and a sky hook to hang that gizmo up your ceiling. A space and room that you did not know that existed in your garage which you could use. BEAM ME UP SCOTTIE"

I don't want you to exert too much any year using the show pusher. But surely ENJOY using that machine that I know well when ever an occasion calls for. Please run it once an year atleast to keep it in trim condition. Also change the Gasolene in the tank too at the start of the FALL. I believe it is a 20:1 mix. The balance left over in the tank will be negligible and can be swung into any auto in a full tank of gas.
