Dear All,
I left Toronto, Canada in 2011 March for family reasons.
I am a single father with 2 Children.
My father died in 2014 and my mother died last week.
So now, I am planning to come back to Canada. Due to the nasty weather of Toronto, I am planning to settle in Vancouver, BC.
I plan to come from India by Sept. 2021 but I see that still Canada has a lot of formalities to be done due to Covid.
In India, I am living in 50,000 INR per month (Full family expenses).
May be I should come by the end of the year.
Initially I plan to be in welfare and use food banks till I settle down.
Your comments would be welcome !!

Very Sorry to hear about your recent loss. My heartfelt condolences to you and the two little ones. She was a very fine lady and you took great care of her. Thanks. Your filial piety will be well remembered and rewarded too. (DON'T KNOW WHERE OR WHEN). We all will root for you to gain the courage and strength and get back on your own two feet and be there for the family.

Take your time and plan well before you head towards the land of the CANUCKS. If you haven't had the SHOTS yet, then yes, follow the rules laid out. Sine the Pandemic the health care has become universal. No waiting periods.

If you want my two cents... P.M.Me. Nothing exceptional nor outstanding. I will throw open to you for good times sake a life line and see if it is suitable to you.

I thought I lost you. So, cheers join us back. The boost is from all of the DESIS.

KEEP GOOD HEALTH AND ENJOY LIFE. (KGHEL)

Dear All,
After some research I have come upon the following action plan.

Destination - Vancouver
Welfare (1 adult and 2 Children) - $ 2000 per month (through all possible means)

Expenses -
Rent (1 bed in a good Gora only area and top notch frazer vetted school) - $ 1450 to $1700
Food bank - Provision given for around 4 days for each week.
Internet - 2 laptop connection needed.
TV - one Tv connection needed
Cellphone - 2 cellphones with local calling and data
Bus / Train pass - 1 monthly pass
medicine - Shall bring from India and being on welfare it will be free

Unknown - Unknown is if there are any residency requirements (like 1 year) before claiming welfare

I will bring all clothing for one year. Our diet will be mostly eggs, bread, cheese, butter. Coffee I shall make at home and take it in a flask. I shall make sandwiches and take it for travel

Looking forward to people filling in the unknowns for me to prepare.

Last time in 2002, i was single and I brought $ 12000 to Canada. I spent around $ 8000 in just 6 months.

This time, I will bring in $ 10000 (by taking loan from my brother) mainly for house rent. However, i want to replenish this amount back to him ASAP.

Thank you.

Murli,

Sorry to hear about your losses.

You are a good researcher, so I believe your must have done enough study on the cost of living, weather, work etc. in various areas. I have never been to Vancouver so I can't say much, but overall the cost have gone up significantly and so the wages. I would look more at the employability and not the expenses. As you already have Canadian Experience it should be difficult to find a job.

Welcome back!! We were missing you.

Many thanks GG.
It is ok even if you give Toronto prices for internet, cable, hydro, monthly subway pass, data, phone etc.. it is will the same or cheaper in vancouver.
The only costly item would be the house rent, which i have capped at $1700 a month to be in a good locality, away from drugs and crime, as i am a single parent.

Sorry to hear about your family situation but I remember some time ago you were mentioning the situation with your mother's health. However, it is very disturbing to read about going on welfare as soon as arrival! Are you sure it will work out as you wish it would? I don't know anyone around me that is on welfare but I somehow think it may not be so easy. Anyways, good luck in all your endeavors. BC is costly, as I heard, but who knows; in actuality, it may not be a that problematic. I am preparing to retire by the end of this year, then move westward.... to Ontario and/or BC. Due to globetrotting, I never could accrue much by way of pension, but I have been trading on TSX and making a lil over 100 grand a year. You may want to explore your market acumen.... who knows, you can trade from home (online) and make some dough.
