Thanks Kuwaituser and Peacock for your responses.

Indeed with forums like these, nay I would say specially CD, it is so easy to have your doubts cleared by people who are in the same boat or have successfully made the crossing.

Thanks Garvo for such a terrific forum.

Also we must appreciate this tremendous community which is now a part of the CD and willing to take out time to help and guide others.

Regards
NW

Canadian consulate asks for Notarised documents, In one way its much easier to communicate a proof od your originals and to avoid any query as a result of document validations, Most of the queries people get are cuz of Documentation proofs hence notarising makes much more sense
I am sure its much cheaper to get documents notarised in Dubai compared to US where i paid $5 for each piece and i guess i notarised 20-30 pages..
Bottom line why not take a little pain now rather then worrying bout it at later stages

Hi folks!

Let me give you some of my views:

Though I always wanted to apply myself, I always found myself too lazy or you can say inept at performing the whole thing myself. Apart from that when I started the process I was on the borderline pass-mark and after Sep 18th when the pass-mark was lowered I had already retained the services of lawyers based in Toronto. They are pretty good and go by the rules, from time to time I have been in touch with them and at the stage of obtaining every document right from getting things such as proof of relationship, doubts whether additional letters must be sent in the absence of any letters, etc were cropping up and I really could start and get through the sending of my application kit faster than I would have done on my own. They have charged me $1800 to be paid in three instalments and that pretty much suited me. Now from time to time I get in touch with them and they e-mail me with their replies promptly.

But there have been a lot of guys who have done it without the lawyers. However it is totally upto you, if you really feel you want to get through the process quickly without too many bottlenecks then lawyers are a good choice because they know the process in and out. But if you feel you have friends or relatives that know the process and know what exactly to send (because what is asked is not too often very precise by the consulate) you can do it yourself.

Something more to lighten you up: believe me if you take the help of folks @ this website I am certain you can do it yourself. If you need any info ask me and I shall me more than willing to help anyone.

My e-mail address is:

To me, Ashish has been giving me quite a bunchful of relevant info for which I am so thankful to him. This is how the network increases folks. So let's join hands to gether in making this process as informative, success-oriented and precise as we can possibly make.

To all prospective immigrants!

Cheers!

Hi NW,

Like most of CDs mentioned, I would also strongly suggest that you apply on your own. I am in Canada for little over 3 years. I did apply thru consultant coz when I applied in 1997, things were litle difft. In fact I know few of my friends who applied on their own even back then.

As Ashish and others have suggested, pl go thru the reqd docs, check your application atleast 3-4 times, word to word, before submitting to CHC. If possible get it checked thru any of your family members, as well.

Regarding interview preparation, you have lots of time for that. But I can surely assist you with that as well. I mean what kind of difft folders to prepare, how to present yourself, how to answer some of the tricky Qs. etc. Just be confident, and above all, HONEST. Do not misrepresent even one single thing.

You should not have any prob. The money that you can save can be utilised here, once you land here.

Any more Qs, pl feel free to contact me.
