And if yes then what kind of CAD program should i go for, should it be a professional programe or can it be one where i can only learn how to Solid Modeling, Create Designs, Drawing Generation, create Assembleis, Surface modeling etc...

Yes, you should have good CAD knowledge.. As you know AutoCAD is being use commonly for 2D drawings and in Mechanical there are so many people using it.

On 3D, this this world Pro/Engineer is quite common. You can learn it from India and try to get certificate from PTC (the owner of Pro/Engineer)

Typically they look for number of hours of experience on Pro/Engineer before giving job, so you may need to really work on Pro/E. I am not sure how you can manage that. In india there is lots of jobwork going on on Pro/E stuff - you may contact Rolta or any company in Pune in CAD business.

Second, you can see what skills are required before coming here using job search.

Visit http://www.workopolis.com http://www.monster.ca http://www.hotjobs.com and search on jobs in your field and then look for job requirements - you will yourself see the skills required.

Hope this answers your question.

I think you are concentrating your skills on technical only, but employer here wants more people skills and not technical skills. Technical skills can be tought, but some of the people skills we can't learn (if we want to learn it takes time) like english you can't learn canadian english in short time for better communication. You will ask what is Canadian english .
If you want to know why immigrants are not getting technical jobs here is because of there desi english (correct pronounces) you have to learn canadian english (wrong twisted pronounces like Bhojpuri Hindi) .

I am doing a job here in canada as a HVAC design engineer.
