i am an immigrant from india.i need to change my name as my name is very long.
can i change my name in canada and if i change is it illegal as per indian rules.i am
still holding indian passport and a citizen of india.please advise.if i can
change where do i need to approach?

Go to cic.gc.ca and follow the links for name change they send you a package in the mail you have to fill it up and send it back with some documents.
And no it does not hamper with your name on the Indian passport you might need to get all the Canadian documents like PR Card:: Health Card :: License changed to the new name but the above stated website would provide answers to all related questions.

You will have to carry proof of your legal name change whenever you travel.
