Hello Experts,
I hold two Masters from the United States, one in Electrical Engineering and another in Optical Sciences & Engineering. I am currently on Optional Practical Training and have looked for jobs since 2001 in vain. I am looking to move to Alberta after I get my Canadian Immigration. I do not have any work experience other than being a graduate research assistant in University for 4+ years since 1999-2004
I wish to know if I can show this experience as a half time work experience for Canadian Immigration.
What is the time line for the Buffalo Consulate?
Thanks

Yes alberta you can :) You are in luck on that front.
Make sure you get a letter from your supervisor/s stating the following facts :-
1.) What aspects of Optics did you work upon (phase retrieval, inverse problems etc.,)
2.) What were your contributions (papers, publications etc.,)
3.) Who was sponsoring the project (e.g., funding agency etc.,) and
4.) How many hours of work per week were you supposed to perform and
5.) What was your salary per annum. You can include all your TA/RA monies also in this amount.

The letter/s should be on his official letter pad and should include some aspects of relevance to industry !
Best of luck :)

Ottawa Nerd
Thanks for the reply,I wish to know what is the job scene for a person like me. Double Masters and no job in the US.
I wanna make on of the following choices
1) Immigrate now and look for a job in Canada by late 2005/early 2006
2) Move to India, get married, get a job and apply for immigration at CHC delhi in late 2006/early 2007

Remember Im 27 yrs old and do not want to be without a job forever.
Can anyone post their opinions
Thanks
Alb

Alberta.. Let me explain your situation with a dialogue from a Hindi film

" Ma hamesha kaha karti thi, jab sab raaste band ho jaaye tab ek hi raaasta khula rehta hai, aaj uspe bhi chalkar dekh lete hain"...

Why dont you contemplate a Ph.D in Optics/Applied Optics ? I have a background in Optical tomography and it helped me in eventually settling in a career related to image processing. Maybe you should try out such stuff. I assume your Ph.D will take at least 4 years. During that period you should get your citizenship also.

If you choose to pursue a career in Optics, you will end up as a researcher in companies or most likely as an academician. However, if you want to combine ur skills with Industrial applications like image processing, photonics, then you have a chance of securing a job in the USA, after your Ph.D or
a Post-doc in your field, after which you can choose any career option you want to.

Unf I have no understanding of your situation, first hand. Hence, I cannot comment if it would be feasible to move back to India and get married etc., I, However, can say that "khali pet pe shaadi karna acchi baat nahin hai" :) So focus on ur career before you think abt marriage.

Have you already applied for immigration ? IF yes, what is the current status of ur file ? If not, then I would advise you to apply immediately. Do not apply from New Delhi as it may take a long time for your application to be processed.

Another option would be to apply for a Ph.D in the USA and land in Canada as a PR. Then flip flop between Canada and the USA 2/5 years to maintain ur PR status. By that time, I am sure you will secure a job in ur field.
