it does not bother me whether you live bare min or lavish, it kind of surprised me the way u quoted ur rent and somewhere you said other expenes $200/- and what we paid when we came here was much more and mind you we payed the bare min then 2 1/2 years ago (not VVIP as you said)
yes 1200 dhs is what u get in "UAE" and not in Qatar.

Telephones Local free
Car Inuarance mid size sedan QAR 1000/- pa
Fuel QAR 1/- per litre .
Products are priced same as Canadian market more or less
NO TAXES and high potential of savings . Life is not very happening . Society is conservative but the place has got good infrastructure & security .
A bachelor can live in QAR 1500/- (I used 2 )
Married couple QAR 4000/- .
If u wish 2 know more and can give me the Company s name & job title I can tell u of the approx salary also .

One general question. Normally is the jobs on contract in qatar or some companies also offer permanent jobs. How is the job security in general in Qatar work environment. i am negotiating to work in a bank there. i know one cant get citizenship in qatar but i was just debating over leaving my permanent job in canada vs going to qatar for some years and then again moving back to canada to start from Scratch..

Think houndred times before you decide to leave your Canadian permanent job and move to Qatar
One of my colleuge exactly did the same thing couple of month back ..left our company for 100k USD (tax free + twice trip to Canada + accomodation free etc etc) job in UAE ..within two months he returned back (mainly because of Iraq crisis and effect on other ME countries )...luckily managed to grab another contractual job here but travelling a lot in comparison to his earlier stable relaxed job
Comparing Canada with ME on long term perspective ...no way

Just to let all you guys know Qatar though tiny is the richest nation or whatever u might want to call but they are very very tough on issuing visa's for indians.
I also heard even a indian dubai visa holder when travelling on job they make it tough to get a qatari visa.
in qatar , medical is free including drug , you will be near to india -------with in 3 hours you can reach to india . there is delhi public school in qatar - your children can get quality education of indian style -there is no job tension ----- you can do work in relax manner -no hurry no worry ---

I'd classify mid-sized as a 2.5L - 3L (like the Camry 'Touring' edition or equivalent) - if its currently QD 1,000 pa for comprehensive insurance on that, I imagine that rates have reduced considerably of late.
"Windsorguy" - if you are a couple and currently double income here in Canada, you may have to bear in mind that it could be pretty difficult for a woman to get a work permit in a number of countries off the Persian gulf.
And BTW, when I talked about living expenses in my post above, that should have read 'not including rent', therefore you could reckon total expenses to be in the range of QD 3,500 - 4,000 (from 15 months ago, but then as the lady from Bahrain pointed out, rents have since risen).
