Hi,

A close family (comprising of three adults) is going to India shortly.

He was interested to carry some Liquor bottles alongwith. During his discussion he informed that he has bought 6 whisky bottles which were going cheap on a deal.

Though I at the first instance did not liked his action of purchase from open market rather than LCBO but then did not argue much due to significant rate difference.

Further I also raised queries about the requirement of purchase from Duty Free shops at Airports to avoid any hassles on landing at Airport.

Surprisingly my friend was unaware of this crucial aspect and is now in a dilemma.

In view of the above can somebody who has handled such situation and carried liquor bottles (not purchased from DUTY Free shops) share the experience.

I am sure there would be some instant help !

Well may be that was the misconception in my mind . As normally people suggest buying such products from Duty Free shops only.

Anyway wisernow, what are the formalities for carrying such items ? Have you experienced such before ? Is there any limit to the quanytity carried ?

Thx !

The official limit is 1 litre of alcohol per person. And there is no requirement that you have to buy it only from duty free shops. People buy it from duty free shops because it is generally cheaper than buying it from LCBO.

I read that the permitted quantity has been changed to 2 litres recently. Ppl generally shop @ DF as the prices are reasonable. There s no stipulation to the contrary .

Thanks wisernow and Manasvi for sharing your thoughts.

And wisernow, the link as suggested by you was great ! I just hope that the same is updated regularly by the concerned department whenever applicable.
