How about a net bank transfer ?????
I mean......log in to your account......enter beneficiary name, a/c no. and enter..........
Money is transferred......gone are the days of queues, drafts, bank off etc.
Half day wasted in bank queue could be probably save you 50 bucks.

deepcb,
Oh I hate it when people act smug and cheeky! The option that you have spelled out is useful only if the person already has an account in banks like ICICI or HSBC that have a presence in India too and everybody knows that. In the absence of such an account the process is a little long drawn as has been detailed in the reply by ICICI to ihpatel!
So you see, what you have heard is absolutely correct that we in Canada are indeed more computer savvy. What it seems you have not heard is that at the same time we in Canada ALSO make sure that we pay more attention while listening to a problem before shooting our mouths off with a solution.

U win some...lose some...everything is not justified in this world.
deepcb,
You didn't get the hint... now did you?

Hi,
I wish to carry a Bank Draft to an urban centre in India.
Can anybody who has tried SBI Draft facility answer the following :
* How many days (in actual) does it take to get the Draft encashed ?
* Are there any tax liabilities while clearing the Draft ?
* What is better ? Should I get the Draft issued in my name or someone who is in India? I ask so as I still have accounts maintained in other banks over there ?
Any other precautionary measures to be taken are welcome.
Thanks !

Enjoy ur life !
I have NRE account with HDFC Bank, I opened it at Ahmedabad branch from Toronto. I transferred money to my NRE account, Ahmedabad by just depositing CAD into any branch of Scotia Bank (HDFC has business account with scotia bank) and inform my branch manager by email.
I got credit/transferred CAD into my NRE account within 4 days. I can check online, the balance and account statement and confirm that this transfer has been credited into my account or not.
I can also pay online all dues of LIC's premiums through this HDFC's NRE account.
NO charges for money transfer at all.
