Hello
My first post. To introduce myself - I live in Kuwait as NRI and like many others - wants to move to Canada. Actually we have achieved fare more !!
Applied in 2000 , interview waiver recieved, medicals completed.
Recently recieved letter saying to send passports for further processing.
So i presume we got it !!
I only have one question. Where shoud we look for apartment ?
I ( & my wife) have customer service experience and would be looking at call center / customer service / marketing coordinator / sales jobs initially.
Is it GTA ( or nearby lets say thornhill...) or Mississauga ( lets say square 1 ) ?
To support your answer please note , we dont intend to have CAR and there is possibility that I may go back to Kuwait and my wife and son may remain for first 6 months. It is important to have apartment close to subway to avoid harsh winter walk & general commuting.
Appreciate if you could give street name to support our search on the net. Right now we are just shooting in the dark on the net....
Thank you
tons of call centre jobs if your english is good enough for local people to understand over the phone. Telemarketing and outdoor sales is a pain in behind, but you have to do that to support yourself, better than factory job.
Try to live in Etobicoke, apptts are cheap and there is Kipling/islington subway to take you to downtown otherwise, you need a car for sure. Living downtown is very convenient as it is walking distance to everything but lot of drugs and crime increasing.

O Canada....
What about mississauga - Square 1
Any call center jobs in Mississauga ?
Islington subway or in down town.

Hi DP jain.
How do we look for apartments in Canada ?
Do we approach buildings directly ( In Kuwait each building has a caretaker and he tells you and does all contract etc - No middle man etc)
Is it same in Toronto or
Do we go to some real estate agent and he takes us around ?
Do real estate agents charge us fees or the landlord.
Thanks
CA
If you want to get an idea of what apartments look like, what they cost in different neighbourhoods, etc, you can check out www.viewit.ca, www.apartmentcorner.com or www.torontorentals.com. Apartmentcorner.com has maps that can show you where each listed apartment building is located in the city.
The websites will give you information about the type of apartments that are available, the rent and contact details of the property managers. You should know that the rent amounts quoted on the site can be negotiated when you actually speak with the property managers. The apartment buildings on these websites require contracts to be signed, its unlikely that you will be able to do this while in Kuwait. You will probably require short term accomodation when you first land in Toronto and the Canadiandesi website is probably a good place to start a search for that.
As regards jobs, they aren't restricted to any specific localities, you could find one anywhere around Toronto, so if you want to avoid excessive travelling you'd probably be better off apartment hunting when you land.
Hope this helps.
Dear crenshaw
Thanks for your reply.
Do agree that i need to be there for apartments/Jobs
Both cannot be done sitting in Kuwait.
But need to clarrify that - will property managers conduct rental contracts or do we need a real estate agent to supervise the contract.
Thanks
