Jake probably needs no introduction on the site. I think he has authored some of the most inspiring and fun to read posts on the site and has been instrumental in giving the site a new dimension in the form of "Arts and Culture" section. His interview of Jesse Thind remains one of the best threads on the forum. And since I know him personally, I can vouch for the fact that besides being super-talented, he's a super-nice guy as well.
Below is his story in Canada (very brief). You can search his other posts to find more details...

Hi,
I’ve been in Canada for 7 years now and wanted to give you a perspective of my experience.
Even for a 24 yr old I was doing pretty well in India. Then I decided to immigrate and by a stroke of luck got my visa within 6 months of application, without an interview.
Piece of cake! Or so I thought.
I arrived with my wife, and went through the usual indoctrination period. This period lasted for 2 years and as usual I had my share of labor, security and other assorted dead end jobs. Then I went back to school (every landed immigrant can avail of a government secured loan after one year of landing), to try to get back into my own field (a niche industry with very few desis- 3d animation). After my studies I went back to the afore mentioned jobs again. I knew I had given it my best shot and kept sending out resumes whenever I could. After about 3 months I got a call from this company that relocated me to another province and basically changed my life.
Five years later I am in the same company, have a new house and am earning good money by any standards. I also have 2 beautiful kids and my wife has recently started her own business. I could not have planned better myself.
All this to say that, from what I know, it takes 1-2 years for any new immigrant to actually get a feel of how things are done in this society and then adapt yourself to the same. In the meantime do not hesitate to do what you have to survive. Every job, no matter how trying, has taught me something. Be it about myself or about people around me. The most important thing I want to mention the biggest battles I have ever fought were in my own head with myself. That is where I have won or lost. I have found out that staying positive is the key. It is difficult to do when the cards are stacked against you. However, it plays a great part in what is to follow.
I sincerely hope that everyone else has a similar opportunity to find out what a wonderful
Country Canada is.

Are you there?
Thanks for the post and kind words BL.
To my mind(and I'm sure with a lot of you). A decent job should only be the beginning. As I mentioned to Chandresh earlier, I consider my story a success story in the making. I'll post, my progress since I posted the above story, in a couple of weeks from now.
btw: the website is now www.jacobv.com

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
