Yes, earlier RBI used to give only US$ 8.00 . Thousands of immigrant came with just $8.00 in their pocket. Have u not seen Around the world in $ 8.00.

Few days before I received a letter and a broucher from ICICI, Canada being the controller of a company. There they had given a page about Hari Panday. I being an Indian also felt pride on it.

Having known both Hari Pandey and Rakesh Goenka personally, I can say one thing - both of them inspire confidence in you. They both speak eloquently and are equally at home with English and Hindi (and Rakesh Goenka with Punjabi amd Marwari too since he is a Marwari who grew up in Amritsar). As far as I know both come from very differenct family backgrounds, while Rakesh is from a well connected political family, Hari I think is from a normal middle class family. Both of them have done extremely well in their professions. Hari I know started at a very junior level in a bank and grew up to be the head of Indian Desk at HSBC - and one thing more - he is a great singer! And the article posted by MI already tells about Rakesh.

It is a pity if Hari cannot get you a decent job depite of personal relation with him. He seems to be quite powerful person in Canada, reading from the above. Networking does not work here, I presume.
Successful desi's want their desi counterpart to go through the same struggle.

Just an honest question.
I had thought that the "success stories" section was meant for first hand account of people who frequent this board. And that is how it has started to begin with. Then I saw some second hand accounts posted by people who personally KNEW someone who had achieved success. And now I am seeing stories from newspapers and other sources. Haven't we digressed a little?
I mean, if it is success stories in GENERAL that we are looking for posting in the "success stories" section or stories that make us PROUD or whatever as an INDIAN, it should take no more than a few minutes to run out of space. There are thousand of Indians/Pakistanis etc who have made it big here. Who does not know that? I am sure no one denies that!!
