Massoodji:
I am writing on behalf of a family member and would appreciate your advice regarding Change of Name and Sponsorship of Spouse
In the event that a female makes a landing and goes back within a few weeks and then decides to get married, return to Canada and later sponsor her spouse, please advise/clarify regarding the following aspects:
1) Since she will be returning on the strength of her PR card, would she have to retain her maiden name on all documents?
2) Would she be able to sponsor her spouse after a few months of returning to Canada? What are the procedures and requirements for this?
I would appreciate advice and guidance from Mr. Massood and anyone who has encountered a similar situation.
Thanks and Regards,
Margo

Dear Massood:
Thanks for your prompt response.
My real concern is whether the authorities will the query the following:
My daughter made a landing in early July as my dependent and returned to India 2 weeks later.
She will be getting married end Jan 05 and plans to return around March/April and then work on sponsoring her husband.
Her PR card has her maiden name, so is it advisable that she retains her maiden name on passport and related documents? When she sponsors her husband and has to produce marriage certificate and other evidence of spouse relationship, will they ask why she retained her maiden name? I guess that option is allowed in this country, am I right? I would appreciate your views on this aspect.
Are there any restrictions about number of days spent in Canada, permanent job in order to sponsor spouse, etc?
Thanks and regards
Marian

Dear Massood,
Many thanks for clarifying. One more question please....
My daughter plans to return to Canada in March/April (after being away for approximately 8 to 9 months), find a job and settle in before applying for immigration for her husband. When is the earliest she could get started on the sponsorship application? Please advise.
Cheers,
Marian

Hi! I have a similar question but we have a different case though. i got married last Dec. 2011 and haven't changed my name or haven't made any attestations regarding my name yet. (Im Still using my Maiden name ) I am in Dubai and planning to go to Canada under work permit, I understand that I can apply for PR after a year, I wanted to prepare myself for the sponsorship of my husband, so here are my questions:
1) Is it better to change my name in my passport now (which might take 2 months or so) or I can just stamp amendment in my passport (saying I am married to my husband; I think this is a faster process)?
2)Will it create a problem if I am to sponsor my husband for PR once I am eligible to do so if i will just do amendment?
*my passport will expire on Sept 2014.
Thank you very much. your response will be much appreciated.
