Hi

I have been asked to choose between two office locations. They are

1) 222 Bay Street
25th Floor TD Centre
Toronto, Ontario
M5K 1J5

AND

2) Suite 1100
90 Burnhamthorpe Road W
Mississauga, Ontario
L5B 3C3

Which office location should I prefer, taking into consideration commuting time, availability & mode of public transportation (I don't plan to buy a car initially!!), etc.

Needless to say, it should be as near to my place of stay as possible, and the place of stay would be an average priced apartment! (Being newly landed immigrants, we will be having financial constraints)

Suggestions/advice invited.

Thanx

Both places are great and depends on whether you really like the real big downtown of a metropolis or the downtown of a smaller city.

Depends on where you want to live - in a suburb residential area (then Missisuaga would be better), or in the heart of town where there is a lot of hustle and bustle (like our own Mishter India lives) in which case Bay Street is great.

Depends again what kind of industry are you in - if in Financial or Corporate atmosphere, then Bay Street is great, otherwise it is Mississauga.

P.S. Just out of curiosity, how come you have been offered a job before landing, and that too in the best two places in the whole of GTA? Is your present employer sending you to Canada?

Yes Chandresh, I am trying to work out a transfer to Canada office.
If my office is in TO downtown, wouldn't it be a long commute for me, considering that I will be looking for a cheap place to stay, and places in/around downtown would be exorbitantly expensive.
Don't you think opting for Missig. office would be more prudent?
By the way, what is the distance between the two locations that I have mentioned, and what are the popular means of transport between the two? (excluding car!!)
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanx

If you want to compare distances, etc. check out:
http://ca.maps.yahoo.com/dd
Input your office address on the left and then put the different addresses you want to compare on the right and you will get the distance and driving routes.

In general, downtown living is more expensive than the suburbs, but places like Mississauga Square One come pretty close to downtown prices.
Living in Toronto, you will have the option of taking the TTC buses or trains to go to work (esp. during snowy days), but from Mississauga your options of transit are limited.
Check out
http://www.gotransit.com
to see if you can take the Go train or bus from where you are planning live to your office.

Else, driving is the only option from the suburbs.

Also, keep in mind that if you live in Toronto close to downtown and planning to own a car, be prepared to get screwed by the insurance companies.

Insurance companies *love* your kind of people - new immigrant, no "Canadian" driving record, new car, downtown address - oh boy, they'll be peeing in their collective pants when you call them for a quote :o
